Different sites/people may say different things regarding this issue.

What i understand is, we shouldnt pray when sun is on top. So this means, when there is no shadow of anything, right ?

But some people say, its 40-45 min before zuhr time, some say 25-30 min and some say 5 min before zuhr.

SO which is true ??? Or how can i know it myself according to place i live ? Should i look at shadows and when there is none, then i cant pray ?

Do u not have the times from your local mosque? They can give u time table of all the times in the whole month, ur surpose to start ten or five mintutes before so u can do ur wudo. But ill let some others comment as I'm only a new revert.

What i mean is; there are some times when we shouldnt pray any volunteer prayers, right ? 1 of them when sun is rising, one of them when sun is setting. And another of them is when sun is totally on top (at least this is what i learned). So i wonder the 3. time , when sun is totally on top, when does this occure ? 5 min before zuhr time? or 25 min before zuhr time or 45 min before zuhr time ?

Assalamulaikum,

The times you are referring too is known as " Makrooh" in arabic or "Disliked" Times in English.

There are 3 main times when ANY prayers should not be offered, these being:-

1) At Sunrise
2) At Midday (or Zaw-waal)
3) At Sunset

As the Sister stated in earlier post, the timetable from your local Mosque should detail the beginning time for all Fardh (Obligatory) prayers and there should also be reference to when the Zaw-waal time is. For e.g. on the timetable I have from my local mosque here in the UK, the Zaw-waal time is stated at 10 minutes before the Zuhr beginning time, hence no prayers should be offered during this time.

The 10 minute rule seems to be the safe and general rule of thumb used in most cases.

The timetable from your local mosque should avoid one having to go through the painstaking task of having to calculate when the Zaw-waal time is for each day, however should one need to do this, I have extracted some information below from "Kitaab-Us-Salaat" (The Book of Prayer) - Page 16 - ISBN 0-620-13943-9...

Time for Zuhr Salaat.

The time for Zuhr Salaat begins immediately after Zaw-waal (Midday). The time of Zaw-waal is calculated by dividing the hours of Daylight by two, and adding the result to the time of Sunrise. For e.g..

1. Example
Sunrise = 6:30 am
Sunset = 5:30 pm
i.e. Number of Daylight Hours = 11 hrs
Divide by 2: 11 hrs/ 2 = 5.5 hrs
Add to Sunrise Time 6:30pm + 5:30 hrs = 12:00 pm
i.e. Zaw-waal will be at 12:00 pm

2. Example
Sunrise = 5:10 am
Sunset = 7:30 pm
i.e. Number of Daylight Hours = 14 hrs, 20 mins
Divide by 2: 14 hrs 20 mins / 2 = 7 hrs, 10 mins
Add to Sunrise Time 5:10 am + 7:10 hours = 12:20 pm
i.e. Zaw-waal will be at 12:20 pm

I hope the above provides some more clarification on the subject INSHALLAH.

Anything true in what I have conveyed is from Allah alone and any distortions from my misunderstands is from me alone
