I am the same. When I first started learning how to read in my own language, I understood all the harder words, and when it came to the transliterated words, I'd get stuck. My father used to laugh and say I was supposed to read them faster because they're part of my 'first' (literate) language. Especially, in our language, we substitute some English letters with heavier versions of our own, so as a beginner reader at the time, I'd always end up laughing at the pronunciation. As I did many, many years ago when I read these: تلفزيون and بنطلون.

I grew up knowing Televisions but, Pantaloon? LOL, haven't heard it in two years and it still sounds funny. الكمبيوتر is funny, too and my favorite word - الطماطم.
