To Christians: Jacob and God

Please provide evidence from the Bible where God promised to guard it from corruption.

Christians love their Holy Scriptures and would never let anyone change them. The Bible warns that those who try to change God’s Word will be severely punished. A long time ago God spoke through Moses (in the Torah) commanding, “You shall not add to the word which I command you, nor take from it, that you may keep the commandments of the Lord your God which I command you”(Torah, Deuteronomy 4:2).

Two centuries later Solomon said, “Every word of God is pure. He is a shield to those who put their trust in Him. Do not add to His words, lest He rebuke you, and you be found a liar” (Proverbs 30:5-6).
Here is what He says in the Psalms ~ “Forever O Lord, Your Word is settled in Heaven” (Psalm 119:89).

The prophet Isaiah said, “The grass withers, the flower fades,
But the word of our God stands forever.” (Isaiah 40:8)

Jesus said, “Do not think that I came to destroy the Law or the Prophets. I did not come to destroy but to fulfill. For assuredly, I say to you, till heaven and earth pass away, one jot or one tittle will by no means pass from the law till all is fulfilled. ” ( Matthew 5: 18) Later he also said, “Heaven and earth will pass away, but My Words will by no means pass away.” (Matthew 24:35).

Here is what He says in the Psalms ~ “Forever O Lord, Your Word is settled in Heaven” (Psalm 119:89).

Even when the last book of the Bible was written, God said through the apostle John, “I testify to everyone who hears the words of the prophecy of this book: If anyone adds to these things, God will add to him the plagues that are written in this book. And If anyone takes away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part from the book of life, from the holy city, and from the things which are written in this book”(Revelation 22:18-19).

These warnings are clear. No believer would dare to change God’s word.

Indeed, it is We who sent down the Qur'an and indeed, We will be its guardian.

Verily We: It is We Who have sent down the Dhikr (i.e. the Quran) and surely, We will guard it (from corruption).
15:9

So why do you assume that Our God would keep this promise for the Quran yet fail in his promise for the Bible?

If that is the case then the Holy Qur'an corrects it.

Maybe you have a different criteria for measuring a prophet in the Quran.

Mrs. Cariad,

I suggest you read a translation of the Holy Qur'an, it's just that it's more fair when somebody talks about a topic with knowledge.

I recommend quran.com as they have six different English translations to choose from. The Holy Qur'an has 114 chapters in varying lengths with the longest put in the beginning.

Within quran.com is sunnah.com which is the sayings and the actions of Prophet Mohammad (SalAllahu Alayhi Wa Sallam) as transmitted by his companions and family. Personally I think it is a goldmine of information, some of the information contained in it are mind blowing and I am convinced that information like that can only come from divine revelation, though I might be prejudiced in that view. :)

:) do you think I haven't tried already...six different English translations...I thought there was only one version ;) if we say we have different translations of the Bible ( which we have) they are somehow considered to be evidence that we have the audacity to change Gods words (which we haven't)

Having compared the two Scriptures I still find I am biased toward the Bible. :) now having said that and giving you the realisation that I am unlikely to convert to Islam I am expecting this will be the end of this conversation...that's usually the way it goes..I find. Shame, but I have enjoyed the conversation thus far and I thank you for your time taken to reply.:)

Peace and blessings to you.

Indeed it looks like people did not listen to our God and decided to change the scriptures. This is not my opinion but what God tells us in the Holy Qur'an.

So why do you assume that Our God would keep this promise for the Quran yet fail in his promise for the Bible?

If you read what you have pasted clearly they are only warnings to man. I can't see a promise from God that He will protect the Bible.

Maybe you have a different criteria for measuring a prophet in the Quran.

Not really. All Prophets (peace and blessings to them all) are chosen by God because of their piety and righteousness. Prophet Moses (alayhi salaam) killed an Egyptian unintentionally but God forgave him and once chosen by God he was steadfast in what he was commanded to do. He was also the only man ever to have been spoken to directly by God.

I wasn't trying to convert you, it is a sin to convert somebody against their wishes. It is better to talk to somebody who has a little knowledge of the subject matter or at least read the Holy Qur'an at least once to make a comment.

Peace and blessings to you too.
