Pretty interesting. If such a mineral (Kryptonite/Jadarite) can be hidden from the knowledge of the world which is composed of a combination of several known elements, we can easily say that we may witness still more amazing discoveries in the world of chemistry. Some of which may have those extraordinary qualities that are only known to the world of fiction so far.

It also reinforces this verse from Quran, Chapter 17, Verse 85:

"Of knowledge it is only a little that is communicated to you, (O men!)"

Its a compound. there is already an element called krypton. Found in group 8 of the periodic table. This is a compund of krypton, very rare as krypton like its neighbour aron is very unreactive nd stable

Periodic Table: I believe Krpton (Kr) element to be in Group "18" and not "8" & there are "118" elements and not 115;

Actually some elements are pending to be included in the Periodic table so may be even more then 118!

Can someone smart (unlike me) confirm this?

The sister is right , the Krypton element is in grup 8, or more exactly grup VIIIA, which is for noble gases.I don't know where you got group 18, there is not such a thing in Periodic Table of elements :shymuslima1: . See this link for reference

This info from Wkipedia, I don't know how to interpret it. Well I am chemist and we always were taught the noble gases are in VIII A group. Maybe this is another conventional arrangement of the table, from a certain group of scientists, but globally this noble gases are known to be in the group VIII A. Another one is this:

u know the block in the middle of the table? the one that starts on the left hand side with Sc 21 and ends with Zn? well theyre Transition metals and their verticle columns dont count in the group numbering system.

A Group number (1-8) tells u how many electrons there are in the outer shell...all elements of the same group have the group number of electrons in their outer shell...it doesnt work if their are 18 groups????

this is confusing me now.....any chemists around who could explian this :confused:

1) If you take the original periodic table and ONLY consider the s & p orbits then it has 8 Groups; so in affect this will leave out the transition metals (groups 2 to 12) & this configuration will make it easier to figure out the electrons in the outer shells!

2) If you consider the transition elements (which you should with their d orbitals) then that would place Krypton in Group 18 as you will have additional groups

3) Group 18 is also called Group 0 (zero)

P.S: Phew! This is not a cut and paste but some research by a Non-Chemist (yours turly) so it can be wrong!

You are all right, it depends on you want to count the transition metals, technically there are 18 groups, because then you get to the trans metals, outer shells can have up to 18 electrons in them.

I used group 8 because thats what most non chemists would say. the end group the one on the far right, the one that make funky lights, neon, argon, krypton and xenon.

Group 8, group 18 is all the same to me, the one with the ful outer shell.

There are gaps in the p table where we are still awaiting elements to be found, but when this will happen I dont know.

Subhanallah dont you just love chemistry, all the atoms arranged in order, each having one more electron than the one before it??? Dont you think its amazing.

my avatar is a picture of the surface of a metal with an impurity in it. all the bumpy things you can see are atoms. it is taken with an electron microscope which basically detects the electrons surrouding the atoms.

colour enhanced ofcourse :)

ermmm yep it did, i only took what was compulsory tho. I really disliked all the maths!!!! We only did particle in a box in depth. Maybe as I grow older i ma come back to it!!!
