Fun or Barbarism?

Assalamu alaikum

I was watching one of brother Ahmed Deedat's videos on youtube and came across a video about Bull Run in spain.
I saw the poor bulls terrified, trying to defend themselves, going through the utmost fear while civilised, educated men of the west are having fun while no one raises any concerns about this barbaric act.

I felt sad and angry. I know some brothers/sisters will say "well, muslims are treated worse than that in Iraq, Afghanistan, Palestine...", but as far as I knew, my assumption was that animals' rights are better protected, especially here in the west.
Am I alone in this? What do you think?

i think ive seen that video. And animal rights are important definitely in Islam, im reminded of that story about the lady who went to hell fire for abusing a cat (she tied it and starved it and it died) so ofcourse its important. Just because our brothers ans sisters are dying in these places doesnt mean we lose our compassion/humanity for animals.

Western civilisation has proven itself incapable of preserving the sanctity of human life let alone animals! so im not surprised at these 'educated' men you talk about who i consider to be pretty evil. i wish the bulls would win in these bull fights.

It happens in the east aswell, bear baiting (sp?) takes place, and thats pure evil. Animals worship Allah (swt) just like we do, and in fact Allah provides for them just as he provides for us.

In china, they torture bears becuase what they do is they extract bile from the bears insides to use in their products (cosmetics!) and that means the bear has to have a permanent incision in the middle of its torso, meaning its in constant pain for months and months till it dies. it was in the news once, recently, where this man entered one of these bears cages to extract the bile and the bear tore him to peices. lol good on him (the bear)

Also my favourite type of bear is Polar bears :), and theyre almost extinct cos the ice is too thin and the polar ice caps are melting fast. Humans are totally selfish!

I remember that game since I was a kid,I was always horrified by that. What kind of fun is this to do that to animals? And all the people gather to see the game ,and others are showing how strong they are by running from that bull or killing it,i find it so cruel. How they treat people if they treat animals like that....

Yesterday Aljazeera was showing how Canned hunting is so famous in South Africa. But now the authorities are planning to put a ban on it. Thats really a good step towards protecting these cute animals.

A canned hunt is essentially a trophy hunt where the customer is guaranteed a kill by the simple expedient of the hosts pre-capturing the animal, and releasing it into an area where the hunter can take a shot at it, such as in a fenced-in area.

I felt so :( when they showed a lion being killed by some hunters. It took them 8 shots to kill the poor lion.

Assalam alaikum

Assalam alaikum,

I'm English but I've been brought up in Spain and have lived here now for almost 13 years. Bull fighting here is considered a nationalsport and the bull fighters, who also can be women now, are thought of heroes. They can become as famous as football players.

I've always been disgusted by the sport. From what I know the bullfighter has to get close to the bull and stab it with spears that hang in its back until finally the bullfighter stabs the bull in the back of the head with a knife. I can't understand anybody that would think this is entertainment, the only word for it is cruelty.

Its nice to see on the news when these rotten people end up with one of the bulls horns up their bum or something.

In town and villages when they have their local fiestas (or holidays) sometimes they close the streets off and let bulls (normally small one that don't have horns yet or only small ones) run through the streets and all the fellas run in front. Absolute madness if you ask me.....but then so far nobody has asked me in the Spanish Government, but if they do then I will soon tell them what I think.

MMMM I feel better now I've got that off my chest!!

Fi amanillah,
Sumaya
