"In recent times, honey has proven effective in the treatment of a great diversity of problems in which bacteria or fungal infection plays a role.

It is now used for combating bacteria that are resistant to antibiotics that so often infect wounds after surgery. It is also used in the treatment of a variety of skin conditions, ulcers, burns, bacterial infections, psoriasis, eczema, acne and septic wounds.

It has also been used widely in treating digestive conditions such as stomach (peptic) ulcers, diarrhoea and irritable bowel syndrome as well as other ailments like eye infections." (Source: Honey....Real Food & Medicine by Dr I. Keela and R. Lasania, P IX [Introduction], 2009)

"For centuries, honey was about the only substance used as a sweetening agent in foods and drinks. Ancient physicians spoke extensively of honey. Sugar was never mentioned in their writings. Sugar was unknown. Sugar is man-made; honey is natural.

Honey was also regarded as the elixir of life. It was by far the most important ingredient in the preparation of remedies for chronic illnesses and common ailments.

Thanks to scientific research in the last decade [1990-1999] that we are now able to appreciate the effects honey has on the healing process."

Nafi [a companion of the Prophet SAW] reported that whenever a wound or boil appeared the body of Ibn Umar [the son of Umar Al Khattab], he would apply honey and recite this verse of the Holy Qur'an: 'There issues from within their stomachs a drink of varying colours, wherein is healing for men"

Personal Comment: 'from within their stomachs' refers to the bees who produce the honey.

Unlike human beings, bees have more than one stomach, and it is within the second stomach that honey is stored and only honey alone.

For those of you who know Classical Arabic, you will see the Qur'an mentions this little known fact but the English translation does not. It is however curiously there in the Turkish translation.

"The Holy Prophet (SAW) attributed great merit to licking (eating) honey thrice a month. Abu Hurairah reported that the Holy Prophet (SAW) as saying, 'Whoever licks (eats) honey for three mornings each month, will meet with no great affliction."

"Honey has the potential to prevent and cure diseases and ensure good vibrant health.

It strengthens the body, expels gases from the body, strengthens the lungs and cures col-related illnesses such as the common cold, asthma, coughs etc. It is an excellent remedy for strokes. It cleanses the blood. It is also used for curing heart and eye-related diseases.

Honey cleanses the intestines, expels toxic matter and phlegm and cures diseases of the bladder, spleen, liver, chest and stomach.

As a purgative, it cleanses the bladder. It is also used as a hair tonic that makes the hair grow long. Applying it to the eyes strengthens the sight and removes the redness of the eyes.

Eating honey regularly strengthens and whitens the teeth, leaving them sparkling clean. In short, honey is food as well as medicine." (Source: Honey....Real Food & Medicine by Dr I. Keela and R. Lasania, P XI [Introduction], 2009)

The Honey Stomach

"The worker bee has a special honey stomach or crop where nectar is temporarily stored.

A bee is capable of easily carrying half her own weight in nectar.

When she is carrying a heavy load, she bends her back on landing at the entrance of the hive. As she lands, her hind legs stand slightly forward."

"Most table sugars need to be converted into other chemical forms before they can be absorbed into the bloodstream via osmosis.

Not with honey. The types of sugars contained in honey are already inverted and are immediately assimilated into the body without further digestion.

Absorption occurs through a mechanism called 'active transport."

"Besides being an excellent source of food and energy, honey also contains important minerals needed by the body.

They are potassium, sulphur, chlorine, calcium, phosphorus, sodium, magnesium, silicon, iron and manganese.

To determine the high iron content in honey, simply add some honey to tea. It will darken immediately."

"Honey also contains vitamins in variable amounts. The amounts depend largely on the source of honey and how much pollen grain is present in such honey.

They are riboflavin (B2), thiamine (B1), pyridoxine (B6), niacin or nicotinic acid (B complex), ascorbic acid (Vitamin C), pantothenic acid (B complex)."

Note: remember that you don´t give honey to very young children. If child is younger than 1 year old, then don´t give honey at all.

Infant botulism is an illness that can happen when a baby ingests bacteria that produce a toxin inside the body.

Infant botulism is treatable, but because of its severity, it's important to learn the symptoms so you can recognize it early. Also know that honey is a known source of the bacteria spores that cause botulism. For this reason, honey shouldn't be given to babies younger than 1 year old.

Spores of Clostridium botulinum bacteria, found in dirt and dust, can contaminate honey. These bacteria are harmless to older kids and adults because their mature digestive systems can move the spores through the body before they cause any harm.

But very young babies haven't developed the ability to handle the spores yet. So if an infant ingests them, the bacteria germinate, multiply, and produce a toxin. That toxin interferes with the normal interaction between the muscles and nerves and can hamper an infant's ability to move, eat, and breathe.

The Greeks, Egyptians, and other cultures made use of honey as a medicine throughout history. It is one of the oldest known medicines and has continued being used up to present times.
Famous ancient physicians who used honey include Aristotle (384-322 BC), who mentions pale honey "good as a salve for sore eyes and wounds", and Dioscorides (c.50 AD) who mentions it for ulcers.
The healing properties of honey are even mentioned in many religious texts, including the Bible, Veda, and Quran.
Now in recent years, modern science has started to confirm honey's place in healing, and explain how it works through the chemical makeup of honey. This has also led to proper clinical studies of some types of honey, and in particular New Zealand's active manuka honey.

I don't like to eat honey myself.

It is said if all the honey bees in the world died then mankind would also die. We rely on these tiny creatures for pollination of plants. A third of the worlds crops are pollinated by bees. We would starve.

There are many Bible verses about Honey.

Here is Samson's riddle about honey :)

Judges 14:14
And he said to them, “Out of the eater came something to eat. Out of the strong came something sweet.” And in three days they could not solve the riddle.

John the Baptist ate locusts and honey.

“If the bee disappeared off the surface of the globe then man would only have four years of life left. No more bees, no more pollination, no more plants, no more animals, no more man.” Albert Einstein

From deep in the forest comes raw, pure and fresh Acacia honey. It is a thick golden honey. Produced according to organic principles from bees who have not been fed sugar. They live in a wilderness away from human habitation. It is a honey with all its natural properties. Children love Acacia honey because of its mild flavour.
