The believers prefer to give to others over
their own selves, despite themselves being in
need.
Abu Huraira reported: A man from the
helpers had accommodated a guest and he
had nothing with him but enough food for
himself and his children. He said to his wife,
“Put the children to sleep, put out the lamp,
and serve our guest with what we have with
us.”
Then Allah revealed the verse, “Those who
prefer the needy over their own selves
despite themselves being in need.” (59:9)
