A BEAUTIFUL MIND

As Salamu 'Alaykum,

Perhaps you have heard of the story of A BEAUTIFUL MIND. It was the story of Nobel Prize Winner John Forbes Nash, Jr whose doctoral dissertation at Princeton University was on and aspect of Game Theory which became known as Nash Equilibrium. In addition to having a brilliant mind, Professor Nash also, around the time of the birth of his son, in 1959 began to exhibit signs of paranoid schizophrenia.

Regrettably I never accomplished any ground breaking mathematical theories with my MENSA level IQ. I decided against my original course of academic study in Mathematics at Penn State University, Main Campus, and instead Majored in Individual and Family Studies with a heavy emphasis on Cultural Anthropology and The Writing Option. But, I have been called by friends paranoid. So, perhaps it is no wonder that given the cultural and political situation in The West that a Muslim who tends to look at the world with a slightly tilted view would wonder when typing his zip code into an online program along with the name of his town if perhaps in the age of Surveillance Cameras at most stores, banks, and major highways as well as projected to be on practically every street corner and the stripping away of Our Constitutional Rights under what I believe was a False Flag to facilitate the passing of the lovely named bill that caused George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, and Ben Franklin to "rollover in their grave", and the tracking of our purchases and credit history by who knows whom with the use of computers and "Bonus Cards" if perhaps those who watch over us to keep us secure might be devious enough to use online programs that tell us when it is time to pray and which direction will allow us to face toward Mekka to "keep track of us.

I can now added to my list of accomplishments one of the longest convoluted sentences in the history of the internet. As a boy growing up with stories of Alvin York, Audie Murphy, John Wayne, and the like I never thought that I would see a day where patriotism meant keeping your mouth shut and and support your government regardless.

"When the government fears the people you have liberty. When the people fear the government you have tyranny." Thomas Jefferson

"Those who give up a essential liberty to purchase a little security deserve neither liberty nor security." Ben Franklin

And, of course George Washington's farewell address where he warns about becoming involved in the affairs of other nations.

Well according to the online program it is nearing time for Fajr and I must go perform Wudu. Hopefully, I won't be able to answer this question from a personal perspective.

Strange how two young men who were closer than brothers while fighting a war 40 years ago in a distant land can travel such different paths to such different destinations.

Assalaam walaikum,

Brother I am teaching at the high school that Mr. Nash graduated from. Funny thing is that the students are bored by his photographs all over the library.

We are all a little paranoid post 911...our world turned on us.

Assalamu'alaykum,

Sister,

That is a sad thing that we often fail to appreciate our heritage and those that contributed to our future. I personally was not a good student my 11 years in the public school system. My kindergarten teacher tied me and another boy in our chairs. My first grade teacher refused to admit that I had answered a question correctly because of the point she was trying to make that everyone follows the leader (I answered differently than the rest of the class. Even at that age, I took the road less traveled.) My second grade teacher continually hit the back of my hand with a measuring ruler because I would hold my pencil in my left hand. And, my third grade teacher struck me repeatedly and bounced my head off the desk because I didn't pledge alliance to the flag the morning that I had Scarlet Fever and a 104 temperature. (Possibly that is my problem :) ) And, I had previously mentioned the IQ test that we were told that afterwards we could go out and play. I just went down the answer sheet shading the answers. I was done with the test in less than 10 or 15 minutes. The test wasn't done with me for the rest of my time in the public school system.

I wanted "to be somebody" and everybody admired my athletic cousin (who lost his leg in the Vietnam War performing deeds of valor) and also my next door neighbor who was also my best childhood friend (who returned from Vietnam and than was a star college athlete and later a professional football player.) So, I joined the Military at seventeen. Achieved the rank of E5 in a relatively short time and finished my military working in an Emergency Room at Fort Dix where I received numerous commendations and was able to perform procedures that some doctors don't get to perform because of their specialties.

As I mentioned once before, my whole identity has been intertwined with martial arts and religion. When I left Christianity and crushed my previously broken vertebrae, I had a crisis of identity. I am just so thankful that Allaah continued to lead me to the path of submission. I find such comfort and direction in Kalaam of arr-Rahmaan, AL QURAN. Knowing that everything that has and is and ever will happen to me regardless of whether it is from my perspective Good or Bad is pre-decreed. (And, I thank The Fiks website for teaching me that as well as Yusuf Estes and the other Sheik whose video I embedded HERE.
