A good book about Hadiths??? (are they even real?)

I was wondering when people go around saying that so and so is an authentic hadith how do they do it? is there a good e-book/book around where i can read up on everything about hadith (like the origin and history behind it)?

Sorry I just seriously dont know anything about Hadiths at all...and my brother was like:
"that most people in the middle east dont even follow the hadith, because i read it in a book one time that hadith isn't true and it was not even written down by sahaba"

clearly "sigh" once again i am at a loss inshallah you guys can help me

In short. Accepting the authentic ahaadeeth of the Prophet sall-Allaahu `alayhi wasallam is essential and obligatory, and denying the sunnah is an act of disbelief (kufr). The links provided should give you a basic insight on how we can trust the narrations.

I came across a website (from another thread)...which had books on it containing information about *weak* and *unauthentic* hadiths...the only downside is it's in Arabic...

Here's a link dealing with Ulum Al-Hadeeth (The Science of Hadeeth)..how an authenticity is proved..how narrations are checked..lists of weak and unauthentic hadeeths..etc.

They have tons of books...the list goes on and on..some topics are so dense..I don't know if I'll ever dare to read into them..lol
