The Prophet (Sallallaahu Alayhi Wasallam) loved Abu Umar the young brother of Anas Ibn Malik (Radhiallaahu Anhuma) and always played with him. One day the Prophet (Sallallaahu Alayhi Wasallam) saw that he was depressed. The Companions told him that it was because his nughr (bird) had died. The Prophet (Radhiallaahu Anhu) tried to make him laugh and said, 'Abu Umair! What happened to Nughair?’ (Bukhari)
Arabs in the past used to twist names as a way of telling others how special they are or sometimes to make them feel better when they are depressed or something.. now it is a common thing between arabs..
as in "Umar" and "Umair" or "Nughr" and "Nughair".. or like when the prophet p.b.u.h used to call his wife Aisha "Uwaish"..
for me some ppl call me "khuailed" or "khalood"..
maybe u should try it!
