About Hajj

Thank You Allah!
:salam2:

I heard that if you are young and you do hajj with your parents and using their money, your hajj will not be complete and you'll have to do it again so you can use the money you earned and then spend it in Allah's cause. Is this true? If so, can you provide a hadith that proves that? Thankxx!

As-salaamu `alaykum.

Is it permissible for him to take Hajj expenses from his father?

Can my father pay for me and my wife's Hajj? Or can my father gift me the airfare and expenses for our Hajj? If either way will our hajj be nafil.

Praise be to Allaah.
There is no reason why a well-wisher should not donate Hajj expenses to someone, and it is not a condition of obligatory or naafil Hajj being valid that it should be paid for with the pilgrim’s own money.

If this donation is given to a relative, then the reward is greater, and he will have a reward like that of Hajj, in sha Allaah. What your father is going to do, paying the expenses for Hajj for you and your wife, is something that is to be appreciated, and he is included in the words of the verse (interpretation of the meaning):

“Help you one another in Al‑Birr and At‑Taqwa (virtue, righteousness and piety)”

[al-Maa’idah 5:2]

There is no difference between the two ways mentioned in the question. If you have not done Hajj before then this Hajj will be the obligatory one, and it will not be naafil just because your father donated the expenses.

In the answer to question no. 36990, we have quoted a fatwa from the scholars of the Standing Committee concerning this. Please refer to it.

Your father who is going to donate this money should have performed Hajj already, because the command is addressed to him too.

It is not right to delay Hajj then appointed help someone else to do Hajj, rather he should hasten to do Hajj himself, then if he has any extra money he may help you to do Hajj.

In the answer to question no. 36637 we have quoted a fatwa from the scholars of the Standing Committee concerning this. Please refer to it.

One indication that it is permissible to do Hajj with money other than one’s own is the fact that it is permissible to give zakaah to a poor person so that he can do Hajj. This is included in the verse in which Allaah says, listing those who are entitled to zakaah, (interpretation of the meaning):

“and for Allaah’s Cause”

[al-Tawbah 9:60]

that includes both jihad and Hajj.

This has already been explained in the answer to question no. 40023.

And Allaah knows best.

As-salaamu `alaykum.

No not quite. Think about it like this. You are young sister, and your provider is probably your father... Why would it therefore be wrong for him to take you for hajj? Instead of your hajj being invalid, he is just gaining more reward. That's a mere summary of the above. One of the bottom links also mentions that likewise, a man can take his wife for hajj and there is no blame upon her. After all, in most normal cases, the husband would be the provider.

Here is a fatwa that pretains to the part of your question that ask about preforming hajj as a child.
Fatwa 36832 IQA

Hajj done when one is young does not count as the obligatory Hajj
If a person does Hajj when he is child, does he have to do Hajj again? Or does that count as the obligatory Hajj?.

Praise be to Allaah.

The Hajj of a minor child is valid, as has already been stated in Question no. 13636. But it does not count as the obligatory Hajj. Rather when the person reached adolescence he has to do Hajj again when he is able to.

This is the view of the majority of the scholars from all four schools of law; indeed it was narrated that there is consensus on this point.

This is because of the hadeeth of Ibn ‘Abbaas (may Allaah be pleased with him) who said: The Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “Any child who does Hajj then reaches adolescence has to do another Hajj.” Narrated by Ibn Abi Shaybah and classed as saheeh by Ibn Hajar in al-Talkhees, 2/220, and by al-Albaani in al-Irwa’, 4/159.

Ibn Qudaamah said in al-Mughni, 5/44: Ibn al-Mundhir said: The scholars are agreed – apart from those who held odd views and whose opinions are not significant – that if a child does Hajj when he is small, and if a slave does Hajj when he is still enslaved, then the child reaches adolescence and the slave gains his freedom, they have to do the obligatory Hajj, if they have the means to do so.

And it says in Fataawa al-Lajnah al-Daa’imah:

Hajj and ‘Umrah done by one who has not yet reached adolescence is considered as voluntary, and does not count as the obligatory Hajj and ‘Umrah of Islam.

Fataawa al-Lajnah, (11/24).

Jazaakillaah khayran for the above fatwa. Muslim_Gurl, remember that the minor child (as above) is in reference to the one who hasn't reached puberty.
