Accurate USA Prayer Time?

salaam,

I've checked several sites, and they give varying times for when fajr starts. Like one website says it starts at 5:52. And another site says it starts at 6:07am. This is such a huge discrepancy. If I'm fasting, how do i know when the right time was?

So which time is really accurate. Which website is best to get the timing? I checked islamicfinder, and it says 6:07am, but others say it started at 5:52.. what's going on?

wassalam.

The differences in the prayer time tables for the Fajr prayer are not due to differences in the schools of thought, rather they are due to the use of different parameters to calculate the time of the true dawn. there are few different methods to calculate fajr and ishaa prayer time (eg.Islamic Society of North America, University of Islamic Sciences, Muslim World League, Egyptian General Authority of Survey).

maybe thats why you are confused. if you are above 50 degress latitude (north or south), you can go for *Muslim World League* option.

for which area and state you want the schedule? islamicfinder.com is a good site inshallah. you can trust them.

as a precaution, stop eating little before time of fajr.

I was looking for Katy, Texas time in the US. Islamic Finder listed it as 6:07am, which is also the timing according to Islamic Society of North America. Others, inclusing Muslim World League list it as 5:52am. I stopped eating at 5:52 or maybe even 5:53... because I was confused and didn't know what to do!

Lol, now the question is, is the fast valid? Because my intention was also that I'm making up for a past Ramadan-qadha fast, and not just Muharram Sunnah..

there is a new masjid being built in Katy, Texas. You should consult with your local masjid as it what the juma3a(group of muslims that pray in that area), agree upon. The sheik there will give you references on what fiqh they use to come up with the time.

there is a lot of variables used in the calculation of prayer times. There is also a problem of how much you are above see level too. So the programmers try to account for such data, but not all are accurate.

There is a difference of seeing the sun set on a camel and standing on the ground. And there is a hadith which mentions that.
