Assalamu aleikum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatu,
I have a sister in law who here in egypt has performed her katb, which is where her and her future husband in front of their families and a sheik (matzun) sign their papers in the masjid.
Although this is an islamic marriage it was in place of an engagement, so they could spend time together courting and getting to know eachother in an Halaal situation.
They have not yet had the wedding or dhukr ceremony but he has visited her many times in her family home and they have been out a few times and in this process she has learned some very negative points in his character and does not feel that she can face married life with him.
She wants a divorce but is afraid as this is frowned upon in Islam. She fears ALLAH (swt) most of all and does not want to do anything displeasing to Him (swt) but she really wants a divorce. Please can you advise of her rights and also what she can do that does not displease ALLAH (swt).
I too fear for her safety quality of life and sanity if she marries this man but am afraid to advise her the wrong information.
I know that they should try any means neccesary to stay togehter and she has tried but he doesnt seem to listen to her when she pleads with him or tries to reason with him.
Please note although she is married to him islamically they have not yet consumated their marriage and she remains in her family home and sees him occasionally until they have their final celebration of marriage and she moves to live with him.
Also she has prayed Istikhara many times and has dreamt she divorced him and she still feels inclined to divorce him.
I have read a story where an lady appraoched ya rasul (SAWS) and said although the man she has married is a good man she detests him and wants a divorce and the Prophet (SAW) told her to present him with a garden as terms of their divorce.
Any help u can give on this matter would be greatly appreciated. Many thanks, jzak Allahu Khayran.
