After much thought - Islam is for me

Hello everyone...

Im an American, born and raised. My family is Hindu.

After many years of reading and studying, I feel deep down inside that Islam is the right path. I have read the Quran and study things pertaining to Islam everyday. I also fast as many days as I can during Ramadan.

I havent taken the Shahada yet.. why you may ask? Because I dont know how to pray =(... Learning the Arabic is difficult for me. Not being able to pray doesnt allow me to feel "connected"... Thats whats stopping me from "officially" becoming Muslim. I wanna practice the religion thoroughly.

Any suggestions on what I can do?

It is pleasure news heard from you. The first step of becoming a Muslim is to declare the Shahadah (Testimony of Faith).
"Ash-hadhu allaa-ilaaha illallaahu va-ash-hadhu anna muhammadhan rasoolullaah" (“I bear witness that there is no one worthy of worship except Allah and I bear witness that Muhammad is the Servant and Messenger of Allah.”)
So, it is my suggestion please make Shahada ASAP.

I live in NYC and there are many mosques here. I have gone to a couple and have made phone calls to a few. I havent had much luck though in finding someone who can help me.

I did go to Jumma prayer once and I just followed the motions of everyone praying. Even though I didnt speak the words, after I was done, I felt so much at peace. It was an awesome exprience.

I follow prayer videos at home but theyre not easy to remember.

Islam is the truth but it is also VERY difficult.

Any suggestions? I have contacted www.meccacenter.com and they said they may be able to find me a mentor. Im waiting on their response.

My advice to you is to utter the shahada and start with learning how to pray. You are able to do that insha Allah.

#1 Welcom to TTI and Islam the guidance is from Allah alone and mashallah you have read the Quran and you know its the truth so the first and most important thing you have to do is to become Muslim and say the Shahada.
its the most important thing even if you dont know how to pray or recite Quran, it dosnt matter non of us knew how to read Quran or pray we learned.

there are many good islamic sites, that can help u pray
in the arabic language
sure it will be hard at first, as u will have to relay on memorization
& u may not know the meaning of the words but slowly u can learn from the translation
i dont want to adv, but check such sites as islamonline.com, & islamways.com
also there are many american muslims on myspace, that have helped other reverts to ease into islam, yo may find one nearby inshallah

Many reverts to Islam go through the initial thoughts that you have described, please note that first and foremost in my humble opinion you should take the Shahadah (declaration of Islamic Faith) as this lets you enter the protection of Creator & serenity of Islam.

Learning how to pray is a matter that can be resolved slowly as everyone goes through a learning process. It is not difficult & requires just a little bit of practise. I have been involved over the years with teaching kids, grown ups (old & young), men & women & its not an overly complicated process, neither does it take much time for the committed. You have to understand that the Creator (Allah) wants you to pray so why would he make the process complicated (that wouldn’t make any sense).

Its like swimming, you can’t stay at the sides & say that I want to perfect my technique before jumping in. You have got to take the plunge & then learn how to swim.

We are all here to help you, if you need help locally please let us know where you live & we will find you some local folks.

alhamdulillah that allah has guide you to the path of paradies and saved from the hell.

at first make your shahadah before you die.

and we dont know when we gonna die, right?right

so do it first and then try step by step ,slowly slowly to concentrate your self in salat as much is possible or you can.

and try to learn salat and ask to allah to make easy for you.

you should take your shahada fast we never know when we die you can learn your salaat after you have taken shahada also we all hear are to learn our religon ISLAM
