...And so are the Days

Abu Talib

Feeling low
{And so are the days (good and not so good), that We give to men by turns, that Allah may Know those who believe}

Ibn Abee Haatim's comments:

Muhammad ibnul 'Abbaas narrated to us that Muhammad ibn Ishaaq said:

{And so are the days, that We give to men by turns...} He said: "We give them to men with trails so that we may test them." His - the Glorified's statement: { that Allah may Know those who believe}.

My Father narrated to me that Ahmad ibn 'Abdur Rahmaan narrated to him…on the authority of Rabee' ibn Anas:

"Allah gave victory to His Prophet and his companions over the polytheists on the day of Badr, and He gave victory to their enemies on the Day of Uhud. A non-beliver can be given victory over a believer, and a believer can be tested with a non-believer. So that those who obey him may be distinguished from those who don't, and those who are truthful from those who are not."

Tafseer Ibn Abee Haatim: 3/773

As Sa'dee comments:

{And so are the days, that We give to men by turns...}

The wisdom behind this is that in this world, Allah gives the believer as well as the non-believer, the righteous as well as the transgressor. So Allah shifts the days amongst people, one day for this group, and another day for the other. This is the worldly life which will come to an end, in contrast to the afterlife, for indeed it is specifically for those who believe.

{ that Allah may Know those who believe}

It is also from wisdom that Allah tests His servants with defeat and trails, so that the believer is distinguished from the non-believer. If the believers were to continually be victorious, people who do not really want Islam would embraced it. So if there are some trials in some cases, the true believer who really wants to be Muslim would become clear, in times of ease and hardship, he would be distinguished from other than him.

brother i was thinking about this issue and i wanted to add on to what you have said

although the muslims will go through different stages of decline and rise in the end we will be victorious inshallah

Allah ‘Azza wa Jall says,

“And Our word [i.e., decree] has already preceded for Our servants, the
messengers. [That] indeed, they would be those given victory. And [that]
indeed, Our soldiers will be those who overcome.” (As-Saaffaat: 171-173)

The kuffar spend billions to fight islam and muslims but at the end we shall be victorious,
Allah ‘Azza wa Jall says,

They want to extinguish Allah's Light with their mouths, but Allah will not
allow except that His Light should be perfected even though the Kafiroon
(disbelievers) hate it. (at-Taubah: 32)

allah (s.w.t) also says:

Allah has promised, to those among you who believe and work righteous
deeds, that He will, of a surety, grant them in the land, inheritance (of
power), as He granted it to those before them; that He will establish in
authority their Deen - the one which He has chosen for them; and that He
will change (their state), after the fear in which they (lived), to one of
security and peace: 'They will worship Me (alone) and not associate aught
with Me. 'If any do reject Faith after this, they are rebellious and wicked.
(an-Noor: 55)

and finally to conclude..

In the hadith that you must be aware of because it talks about the stages of our history,

Rasoolullah (sallallahu ‘alayhe wassallam) said, “The Prophethood
will last among you for as long as Allah wills, then Allah would take it
away. Then it will be (followed by) a Khilafah Rashida (rightly guided)
according to the ways of the Prophethood. It will remain for as long as Allah
wills, then Allah would take it away. Afterwards there will be a hereditary
leadership which will remain for as long as Allah wills, then He will lift it if
He wishes. Afterwards, there will be biting oppression, and it will last for as
long as Allah wishes, then He will lift it if He wishes. Then there will be a
Khilafah Rashida according to the ways of the Prophethood,” then he kept silent.
(Musnad Imam Ahmad (v/273); Reported by Nou’man ibn Basheer
(radiyallahu ‘anhu))

therefore every muslim must be hopeful and must believe in these ayat's and hadiths and know that whatever we face the best end is the for the believers in this world and the next. i pray that i live long enough to see and live through these great times AMIN
