I picked that name cos it sounded similar to my 'old' name n i liked it but i still dont know what it means

In Spanish class I was thought that it means Mary the mother of Jesus (Peace be upon Him), in Arabic Maryem.

The meaning to "Mariya" is purity.

If the name was spelt "Maria" then it would be recognised as one of Prophet Muhammad's (SAW) wives's name.
