Asking for Favours

The Messenger of Allah (sal Allahu alaihi wa sallam) said: “Let every one of you ask of his Lord all that he wants.” [Tirmidhi]

Asking people for favours, even if they are small, tends to damage our self-respect. Unfortunately, many of us continue to beg all day long at the cost of our pride.

Sometimes we are asking for a glass of water, other times a towel, tea, meals, a dropped pencil, and what have you! An average person asks one hundred times a day. Never ever ask anyone for anything. Feel happy to do all your work yourself. If you are sick and want your spouse to pass you a glass of water; ask Allah (subhana wa ta’ala) instead to give you the strength and energy to get up and drink it on your own.

He (subhana wa ta’ala) is the Only One Who can truly give: How can others give you something that they do not own themselves? Ask the One Who will never refuse and Who owns everything that you need. If you need faith, satisfaction, peace, security, a loving spouse… anything, ask Him and only Him.
