Asking For Information

Assalam Alikum

I am a syrian muslim guy who lives in Saudi Arabia. I applying for a degree in management information system. However, I was nominated to study a semester in Texas A&M University under a student exchange program.

I will be honest wity you. I am afraid from coming and facing hard situations since I have a lehya and I wear a short trouser. Also, I am afraid from other situations in which I will be seeing not conservative girls.

I would like anyone to give me any suggestions or help me with deciding wheather to come or not.

subhanallah. you are in the best places of the world and you wanna come here? brother i would suggest that you don't. honestly- it may not be bad, but it is in religious ways. you'll be surrounded by non muslim women whom you might have to shake hands with or even do a project with. i mean over there in your country you've got ISLAMIC SCHOOLS/UNIVS. you can study deen and science/social or whatever other school education you need there. brother many of us dream of coming to Saudi Arabia, so don't come here. i mean all your da'wah dreams and so on you can achieve there. as for hard situations: hmmm firstly you're muslim, it depends on where you will live- but at one point or another you will be given a hard time. another thing is you are in an islamic school. but looking on the positive side: you will meet muslim americans, africans all cultures. and you will get a taste of what being in a different country is like. but i still suggest to stay in an islamic country. but the choice is yours. asalamu alaykum.

Thanks for the information and for being care about Islamic youth such as me.

However, the negotiation is on the benefit that i might get from the US University. Also, the benefit that i might get by establishing a base from now in US which might help me in the future in case I want to continue my studies there.

Also, a friend who lives in Michigan told me that you can play your role as a muslim without facing serious difficulties such as ones seen in movies. In addition, he told me that the community of Texas is a conservative one including the christians.

So, balancing the benefit that i might get there including the academic, experience prospectives and preparing myself to accomodate to the difficulties that i might face in US, it might be able a beneficial travel for a semester.

I would have to advise you to stay in KSA and continue your studies there. From your post I get the idea that had you not been nominated for this student exchange program, the thought might never have crossed your mind. I would consider it a blessing to be able to live in an Islamic setting. Here in America you can't walk anywhere without keeping your gaze down at your feet so you don't have to look at the women. If you study at an American university the odds are you will have a female teacher who is uncovered who you will be paying attention to for extended periods of time.

I would suggest that you do not come here just for the purpose of the dunya, but rather stay in the environment you are in because it will be better and purer for you, insha'Allah.

More Help to Decide

Thanks for the information. I still not able to take the decision. Some people tells me do not leave such an opportunity and exploit it. Also, they say that I can accomodate myself there and try to control my eyes and heart.

On the other hands, some people tells me do not come and still in Saudi Arabia. They say that for sure you will face a hard timing there. Nevertheless, still there is a benefit from studying at an American University and it is not just for the purpose of Dunya. Being educated in a highly advanced environment in science might help me to achieve something for Islam and Muslims.

Brothers give me your advice.

Wanted to share this wth you because I'm also going through similiar thing but of opposite in nature.

I'm in a field of engineering which is virtually non-existent in Muslim World.

And I'm seriously thinking of abondoning the current field and learning something which will enable me to make Hijarh to a Muslim country.

And Saudi would be at the top of the list any Muslim planning for Hijrah(But ofcourse it is not possible right now because there are no visas given to foriegners).

But, I understand that you wish to go temporarirly and return back to Saudi,

if it is very important and you really want to come, yr welcome. BUT you have to be extremely carefull because it will cause yr iman to go down :astag:
but if you really want to go to learn in america then go!! make sure you leave when you finish yr education plan
we all want you to be successful in the will of Allah (swt)..
so if the education system in America is better that saudia or wateva then i dsuggest you pack yr bags :lol::lol:
