Assalamualeikum,

A CALL FOR ISLAMIC SOLIDARITY

August 21, 1969, is a day that Muslims remember as a day of infamy. On this day, Jewish extremists tried to burn the Al-Aqsa Mosque in occupied Jerusalem. The act angered and pained Muslims but it was particularly offensive to all civilized people considering that the al-Aqsa Mosque is very special and important in Islam.
August 21, 2006 marked the 37th anniversary of that evil attempt at a time when new and dangerous Israeli violations threatening the buildings and
sanctities through excavations carried out by the Israeli occupation authorities underneath the mosque's walls. The anniversary also comes at a
time when the Israeli aggression against the Palestinian people continues with its killing of civilians, abducting officials, maintaining its siege,
building settlements and the Apartheid wall.
In the wake of that criminal act in 1969, which brought unanimous worldwide condemnation and reprobation, the leaders of the Islamic world met on
September 25, 1969 in Rabat, Morocco and decided to establish the Organization of the Islamic Conference. Thinking together of their common
cause and mustering the force required to overcome their differences, they united in laying the foundations of this 57-state organization, the second
largest international organization after the United Nations. It was formed to defend the honor, dignity and faith of the Muslims, to face the dangers in the
holy city of Al-Quds (Jerusalem) and against the Mosque of Al-Aqsa. Its priority is to liberate Jerusalem and Al-Aqsa from Israeli occupation.
Since the first summit, the organization's goals have expanded to include coordinating and cooperation among member states in the political, economic,
cultural, scientific and social fields.
In March 1970, the First Islamic Conference of Ministers of Foreign Affairs was held in Jeddah,Saudi Arabia to set up a permanent General Secretariat as a liaison among member states and was charged with coordinating their action.
The conference appointed its Secretary General and chose Jeddah as the headquarter of the organization pending the liberation of Jerusalem, which would be the permanent headquarter.
The Organization of the Islamic Conference
(OIC) is an inter-governmental organization of 57 Muslim and Muslim-majority states. These states decided to pool their resources together, combine
their efforts and speak with one voice to safeguard the interest and ensure the progress and well-being of their peoples and those of other Muslims around the world.

In February 1972, the Islamic Conference of Foreign Ministers in its third session adopted the charter of the organization. Under the charter, the
OIC aims at strengthening solidarity and cooperation among Islamic states in the political, economic, cultural, scientific and social fields and supporting all
Muslim people in safeguarding their dignity, independence and national rights.

The OIC also aims at coordinating actions to safeguard the Holy Places, support the struggle of the Palestinian people and assist them in recovering their rights and liberating their occupied territories. The OIC also works at eliminating racial discrimination and creating a favorable atmosphere for the promotion of cooperation and understanding between member states and other countries.
The principles governing OIC activities are based on the full equality among
member states and non-interference in the internal affairs of member states.

May All of us make a dua' to Allah subhanahuwataa'la to safe masjid al aqsa.Ameen.
