Qatar bans three more types of shampoo!

A panel of experts order traders to take some Pantene products off shelves with immediate effect

Manama: Qatar has banned three more popular brands of shampoo from the local market after their samples failed to meet the quality standards.

A panel of experts on Tuesday ordered traders to take the Pantene products, including children’s shampoo 'Blooming' and the shampoo 'Roberta', off their shelves with immediate effect.

On Wednesday, Qatar daily The Peninsula reported that the panel, with representation from the Ministry of Environment, Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Urban Planning, Supreme Council of Health and the Ministry of Business and Trade, cautioned consumers not to use the "tainted" products.

It said the compound 1.4-dioxane was found above the permissible limit of 10 parts per million in the samples of the brands. In excessive amounts, studies have shown it can cause cancer and skin disease.

Tests conducted by the laboratory department at the Ministry of Environment found that all three brands of the shampoo posed potential health hazards and did not match international quality standards.

The panel cautioned traders to meet the required standards of the region and stressed that all other variants of the shampoo, as well as other brands on sale had successfully met these requirements.

Qatar's major supermarkets had taken the products off the shelves by Tuesday afternoon as news spread, but many retail outlets, unaware of the recall order, continued to sell them.

Doha has recently recalled two variants of popular shampoo brand for failing to comply with the country’s quality standards. And a few months ago it had to recall four other variants of shampoo.

Sister QueenOfIslam,

Thank you for posting. Here are a few more links regarding the problem. Some are blogs with alot of science about the byproduct...

http://supply-chain-data-mgmt.blogspot.com/2010/09/pantene-shampoo-banned-due-to-toxic.html

Specifically, 1,4 dioxane is a byproduct of the ethoxylation process in the production of materials used in cosmetics, notably sodium myreth sulfate and sodium laureth sulfate (msds here). Ethoxylation is a relatively common chemical process that renders harsh cleaning ingredients more gentle.

Also, it looks like Blooming and Roberta are not Pantene products, but seperate brands....kinda of a bummer for me since I use Pantene.

Here's the link you probably used.

Here is the link to the FDA's Safety page for "Recalls, Market Withdrawals, & Safety"...you can do a search for a product or look up something by year. You can never be too safe sometimes.

Thank you again sister for posting.

Greeting
Dearest JenGiove :)

Great help link added here~:shake:Thank you JenGiove :) (appreciate)

so until then avoid using these banned shampoo bros and sisters ,i suggest switching to baby shampoo for this time .
Baby shampoo is safe and good for those who like to switch shampoo or terminate using current shampoo on immediate just as not to caused futher damaged to your hair
yet insya allah will be more in the safer side to stop using shampoo for a week (wash off with water) before switching and start using new shampoo
just to be sure the traces of the previous shampoo didn't accumulate into the new one! Just to be perfectly sure.

~May Allah swt help and guide us~Amin!
