The best way is probably total emmersion into an arabic speaking country. However, I figure most of us cannot do that. Personally I learn best from listen and repeat cd's they sell at Barnes and Noble.
Also, probably the best thing is Quran. That will help you get a good base vocab.

i am seriously considering making an online Arabic teaching site for new comers to islam because i keep on hearing about this problem and i think we who speak the language need to do better i am in the middle of moving because of my job but once i got my time organized ill start working on it although i am not a teacher but ill try i do not think its hard ill need a good cam and a nice board my mind is made up look for it in the next 3 month or so ehehehe.
