I just read a post on Islamophobia but I thought it better to introduce myself before getting involved in other topics.
I am a Christian, although I say that with some caution. I am also a very free spirited person. The teachings of Christian people can be varied and I do not hold myself accountable to what various churches or pastors say. I answer directly to my God. There is value in unity and value in working together with like minded people but it must be authentic unity. I do not pretend with anyone.
I have to back up a bit so you can know me. When I was young, maybe 17 years old, I became very angry at the church I was attending. They promoted certain religious experiences. When I was unable to get those experiences I became very angry at them, in fact, if I can be so bold, I came to hate them.
In time I came to ‘know’ and pursue God but it was something I did quite alone. I did not trust the churches.
Later I decided that I would not obey the doctrine of any church but would rather just do what the Bible says I should do. I obeyed a modernized version of the commands of the Bible the best I could. At the end of that time I was very sad to see that, that too, had failed me.
I sympathize with the comments about Islamophobia. Many people are phobic.
Now I have logged on to two Islamic discussion sites. My intention was to challenge and to be challenged even as I would expect of my own brothers. Many Christian leaders are controlling and exclusive but I see that in Islam too.

dear Bob it is reallly great of you to drop in , yes people who are not convinced of their selves or faith seek to gain satisfaction from controlling others rather meddling.
but that should not put off ones search for truth ,ofcourse i can see that you moved on because those guys were selling theological circuses instead of truth.
in islam my dear friend there is absolutely no one between Allah the Almighty or God to whom we speak directly. the best part however is that He has answered all our questions in advance as well through revelations whether to moses or to david or to jesus though the sad truth is that neither the torah nor the gospels are in the form they were originally received infact there has been human manipulation in the word of God to the extent that it is no longer possible to separate the grain from the chaff. even Jesus called God by the name Allah (not just because the english word God was not known to him -english was not even spoken there-it was never a language of the bible till 6th AD)
and then Jesus last phrase EllaElla lamasabachtani is not translated as father father why thou forsaken me but rather O God oGod why have you forsaken me.

so Allah ,Ella refer to the same Being who Created Us the God of not just Jesus and Muhammad but of all humanity.
and that is the first commandment as well.
abraham was on the straight path he did not believe in a trinity etc so did jesus ,all were prophets of Allah innocent and pious and the islamic concept of God is

Say ALLAH IS ONE
ALLAH THE Absolute Eternal
He neither gave birth nor was He born (He is far above such things)
And There is no one of His Likeness.

you can hear this chapter in arabic which are the words of Allah Himself------>>

I honor all people. Not that I always honor people but it is the standard by which I live, it is what I believe, that I should honor all people. I do not honor people as though they were good or right in their doctrine but because I know my own weakness. I believe we all have the ability to hear the voice of our great eternal master. I also believe that we all hear the words of Satan and sometimes respond to him as well. To distinguish the two is my purpose.

I also believe in Jesus. I do not know the Quran but I understand that it speaks of the virgin birth. His mother was a daughter of Adam but the only father he ever had was God and in that, there is none like him.

I want to interject here that I do not know how to talk about God to you guys. The name Allah is foriegn to me. I do not know what or who he really is. On the other hand, I see that the term God might have strange meaning for you. I suppose I can speak of a creator or master, if it would make our conversation easier.

I look to Christians and Christian churches just like I do all others. They can hear from God, as they are open to that, but they hear from Satan as well. Here is how I deal with the distinction between God and Satan.
Knowing that I too have lies inside me I do this.
I believe that lies and sin all carry hypocricy. They contradict themselves. My lies and my false beliefs eventually will contradict themselves, one thought with another. On the other hand... I believe truths tend to confirm each other. One truthful thought will align well and confirm another truthful thought. So, when I disagree with someone, I know that one of us is wrong. I am not so nieve as to believe I am always right so the wrong might well be me. On the other hand, when people are in unity they are more likely to be true. When I agree with you, or with anyone else, there is a greater chance that we are right. Let me give an example.

If I think a brother is lieing to me I can do this. I can call his mother and his cousin to talk about the matter. Then, later I can call his neighbor and his wife to discuss the matter. His lies will expose him. What he tells to one, will not match what he tells to another. If however, the mans words flow smoothly with anyone, he is probably more genuine. So it is as we talk to, and about our creator.

Lies and hypocricy are destructive but truth holds hands and builds something good. For that reason I do not fear falsehood. It eventually exposes itself.

My last post might be interpreted to say that I follow majority rule. I do not. I am not always right and I do not know all things but I do know what I believe and I am forced to stand by it. I can not honor others if I do not honor myself.

Dear Bob welcome to this wonderful site . ALLAH is

Al-Baqara

Allah! There is no God save Him, the Alive, the Eternal. Neither slumber nor sleep overtaketh Him. Unto Him belongeth whatsoever is in the heavens and whatsoever is in the earth. Who is he that intercedeth with Him save by His leave? He knoweth that which is in front of them and that which is behind them, while they encompass nothing of His knowledge save what He will. His throne includeth the heavens and the earth, and He is never weary of preserving them. He is the Sublime, the Tremendous. (255) QURAN
2:255

Al-Hashr

He is Allah, than Whom there is no other God, the Knower of the Invisible and the Visible. He is the Beneficent, Merciful. (22) He is Allah, than Whom there is no other God, the Sovereign Lord, the Holy One, Peace, the Keeper of Faith, the Guardian, the Majestic, the Compeller, the Superb. Glorified be Allah from all that they ascribe as partner (unto Him). (23) He is Allah, the Creator, the Shaper out of naught, the Fashioner. His are the most beautiful names. All that is in the heavens and the earth glorifieth Him, and He is the Mighty, the Wise. (24)
QURAN 59:22-24

Al-Ikhlas
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful

Say: He is Allah, the One! (1) Allah, the eternally Besought of all! (2) He begetteth not nor was begotten. (3) And there is none comparable unto Him. (4)
QURAN 112:1-4

Hello and Welcome to the Forum Bob,

Firstly, I have to say, you come across as someone looking to know what Islam says about Allah (the Exalted), Prophet Jesus (peace be upon him) and a couple of other things in relation to that. Therefore it appears rather confusing what you were trying to say although it could be due to my lack of comprehension, most likely the latter.

Therefore from my understanding. I would recommend two things:

a) Acquire an English translation of the Qur'aan. This is your first start, it will tell you about Allah (God) (the Exalted), Prophet Jesus (peace be upon him), Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) and so on.

b) I think you should look at the thread below, I realise it is big, therefore you can refer to the smaller thread's in that section relating to Allah (the Exalted) first, if you like.

http://www.turntoislam.com/forum/showthread.php?t=58853

You seem to affirm that you believe in God but feel that you cannot establish a connection with Him. Therefore I recommend you start from the post (same thread) below in order to know who Allah (God, the Exalted) is. This is because, in order to worship and connect with God, don't you need to know who he is?

http://www.turntoislam.com/forum/showthread.php?p=362288#post362288

I suggest you look at that thread, although again you could start reading from post 64 which might be a bit better:

http://www.turntoislam.com/forum/showthread.php?p=362072#post362072

I will leave you with this excerpt from that thread and I hope it is not an overload of information.

6) The Importance and Necessity of Islamic Aqeedah (Faith)

The Islamic aqeedah is as essential for man as water and air. Without this aqeedah he is lost and confused. The Islamic aqeedah is the only one which answer the questions that have always preoccupied man and still preoccupy human thought and cause frustration:

Where did I come from?

Where did the universe come from?

Who is the Creator?

What are His attributes and names?

Why did He create us and the universe?

What is our role in this universe?

What is our relationship to the Creator who created us?

Are there other, invisible worlds beyond the world that we can see?

Are there other intelligent beings apart from man?

Is there another life after this life?

If the answer is positive, what is that other life like?

There is no other belief today, apart from the aqeedah of Islam, that can answer these questions in a true and convincing way. Everyone who does not know or believe in this aqeedah is like that miserable poet who knows nothing of it.
His name is Eeliya Abu Maadi; the couplets quoted come from his lengthy poem entitled At-Talaasim (mysteries), from his collection of poems entitled Al-Jadaawil (streams), Pp. 106
He says:

I came, I know not from whence, but I came
I saw before me a path, so I followed it
And I shall continue to tread this path, whether I like it or not
Where did I come from? How did I find this path?

I know not

Am I new or ancient in the universe?
Am I free, or a prisoner in chains?
Am I controlling my own fate in this life, or am I controlled?
How I wish I knew, but

I know not

My path, what is my path? Is it long or short?
Am I ascending, or descending?
Am I running through this life, or is it life that is running?
Or are we both standing still, whilst time runs?

I know not

I wonder, when I was in that unseen, secure world,
Did I know that I was hidden there
And that I would emerge and come into being?
Or, I wonder, did I not know a thing?

I know not

I wonder, before I became a complete human being,
Was I non-existent, or was I something possible, or was I something?
Is there an answer to this mystery? Or will I remain forever
Not knowing... why I don’t know?

I know not

What confusion is this! What anxiety this uncertainty brings to human souls!

If death is a punishment, what sin can the pure soul commit?
If it is a reward, what blessings does the promiscuous soul deserve?
If there is no reward or loss in it,
Then what is the point of calling things sinful or righteous?

I know not

If death is a kind of sleep after being awake,
Why do we not stay awake?
Why does a man not know when he it to depart?
When will the secret be revealed so that he will know?

I know not

If death is a kind of sleep to allow man to relax
And it is a setting free rather than an imprisonment, a beginning rather than an end,
Then why do I not love this sleep and long for this?
Why are souls so afraid of it?

I know not

After the grave, after death, will there be any resurrection
And life, and eternity, or only final oblivion?
Is what people say true or false?
Is it true that some people know?

I know not

If I am resurrected after death, physically and spiritually,
I wonder, will I be resurrected in part, or in total?
I wonder, will I be resurrected as a child, or as an adult?
Then will I know myself after I am resurrected?

I know not

He does not know what his ultimate destiny will be, and man’s ultimate fate concerns him. He wants to be reassured about that destiny. We see the poet’s pain, because he does not know where his ultimate destiny lies and what will become of him. He is misguided from the truth, his heart is filled with misery and laden with worry and grief. His wonderings have exhausted him.

How many people there are in this world who are like this misguided, miserable poet! Some of them are able to express their misery and confusion, whilst others feel and suffer, but their thoughts remain trapped in their miserable souls.

“I know not,” is the response to these eternal questions. These are not the words of this poet alone. Socrates, the thinker who is viewed as one of the giants of philosophy, clearly stated,

“The thing that I still do not know about is the fact that I do not know

(Ad-Deen by Ad-Darraaz, 69).

Indeed, scepticism/agnosticism (in Arabic, laa adriyah, lit. “not knowing”) is an ancient school of philosophical thought.
Only though the guidance of Islam does man learn where he came from, where he is going, why the universe exists, and what his role is in this universe. He knows that in truth, and there is a great difference between those who know and those who do not:

Is he who walks prone (without seeing) on his face, more rightly guided, or he who (sees and) walks upright on the Straight Way (i.e. Islamic Monotheism)?

(Qur'aan 67: 22)
