I just read a post on Islamophobia but I thought it better to introduce myself before getting involved in other topics.
I am a Christian, although I say that with some caution. I am also a very free spirited person. The teachings of Christian people can be varied and I do not hold myself accountable to what various churches or pastors say. I answer directly to my God. There is value in unity and value in working together with like minded people but it must be authentic unity. I do not pretend with anyone.
I have to back up a bit so you can know me. When I was young, maybe 17 years old, I became very angry at the church I was attending. They promoted certain religious experiences. When I was unable to get those experiences I became very angry at them, in fact, if I can be so bold, I came to hate them.
In time I came to ‘know’ and pursue God but it was something I did quite alone. I did not trust the churches.
Later I decided that I would not obey the doctrine of any church but would rather just do what the Bible says I should do. I obeyed a modernized version of the commands of the Bible the best I could. At the end of that time I was very sad to see that, that too, had failed me.
I sympathize with the comments about Islamophobia. Many people are phobic.
Now I have logged on to two Islamic discussion sites. My intention was to challenge and to be challenged even as I would expect of my own brothers. Many Christian leaders are controlling and exclusive but I see that in Islam too.
