Brothers and Sisters in New York: "Secure the word, Halal" Legislation Petition

Assalamu 'alaykum.

Did you know we have no regulations in New York City when it comes to the term "Halal"? This means anyone can simply post "Halal" on their restaurant or store without their meat or chicken truly being Halal. Please take a moment to complete this petition to help accomplish the following:

1. Let the city know you want it to establish formal regulations just like the Jewish people have with respect to the term "Kosher"
2. Bring about confidence for Muslims when they shop at a business that advertise as Halal
3. Help control price gouging with respect to overpriced halal meat (ceilings will be set and monitored)
4. Ensure accountability for businesses that specific standards be upheld, otherwise they lose their Halal certification

This petition is to get the ball rolling in terms of this legislation happening. The city will NOT initiate this idea unless at least 15,000 people show their support.

Ohh I just realized the deadline is today.. but insha'Allaah, if you have time before the day ends, you can sign on behalf of the members of your family using the same information.

Also, I saw this attached to the link:

"Please look out for a future legislation pertaining to our Muslims brothers and sisters who die in hospitals. At the present moment, if a Muslim dies and does not have family members he/she is taken under the custody of the government and often their body parts are taken. This includes eyes, internal organs, and sexual organs. We need to protect our Muslims brothers and sisters in their death to ensure their rights are fulfilled. At the present moment, their is legislation for Jewish folk, such that, when they die, the room is on lock down and nothing happens until the local representative (Rabbi) makes the call. We need a similar legislation, so please look out for that in the near future, bidhnillah."
