Can we have medical insurance, car insurance, etc?

Just wondering, as I'll be coming across these things in future: Is it halal for us to have medical/health insurance, car insuarance, debit cards, etc?

I know that credit cards and life insurance are wrong.

Plus, what's the deal with pension/provident funds and 401(k) plans? Most of it is interest, how do we deal with these?

But I thought health insurance was okay, if your job covers it? This would really complicate matters, as it would mean a person can't ever go to a doctor because the medical bills add up to so much $$$! And if, God forbid, anyone has an emergency situation, the case is completely hopeless, and no one would treat you if you don't have insurance.

Anyone else have any different opinion? Muslims living in the West, don't you have medical insurance? However do you manage?

SISTER ,
I HOPE U TK THIS IN RIGHT PERSPECTIVE
I DONT KNOW THE FINAL RULING THOUGH I THINK ANYTHING CONNECTED WITH INSURANCE IS BASICALLY NOT PERMITTED.

TO TAKE THIS IN THE RIGHT SPIRIT even if one had medical insurance -it wud guarantee life forever -one day we will exit and meet Allah-and He will ask why u dint trust me..?

so if any of us have fallen in this trap lets repent and come back to the straight path fast.

insurance pays us the money back-its like interest only.

I"m still not convinced, any one else?

Nowadays its common for the jobs to cover health insurance of their employees, and if, inshallah, I get a decent job which does cover this, then I'm okay, right? It's not like I'll have to refuse?

But if I Buy health insurance for my own sake, because I want to go see a doctor, but I have no money, then that's wrong?

I would prefer an answer from someone who's living in the West and has dealt with this already.

And so auto insurance is completely wrong? If I get a car, I'll have to go around uninsured?

Brother this matter is always brought up and the answer is always the same. Check here:

The bottom line is, you only do it if it is necessary, and then you only do the minimum that is required. If you have a job that you must get health insurance for, then that is what you must do otherwise you would be jobless. You cannot drive a car without insurance because it is illegal, yet everyone needs a vehicle for transportation.

To free your self of sin and guilt, ask yourself "is this something that I cannot survive without?" if the answer is yes then it is a necessity, so you do what you have to. Just like eating haraam meat such as pork or ham, if that is your only option then you use it lest you die.

Outside of mandatory insurance, it is all on your strength of Imaan. If you work hard to improve your relationship with Allaah, then you will understand the hadith of the prophet Mohammad (SAAWS):

uhaib reported that Allah's Messenger (may peace be upon him) said: Strange are the ways of a believer for there is good in every affair of his and this is not the case with anyone else except in the case of a believer for if he has an occasion to feel delight, he thanks (God), thus there is a good for him in it, and if he gets into trouble and shows resignation (and endures it patiently), there is a good for him in it.

Strengthen your faith, rely only on Allaah and not anyone else and you will find that you need nothing or no one else. Musa 3alayhi Assalaam, he stood in front of the ocean, and he had no idea what was going to happen. How on earth were they to get out of this situation? The enemy is at your back and in front of you is the vast ocean. Can any human being get out of such a situation? Then the people with him said, "Oh Musa, we are definitely not going to survive!", and that is when Musa said:

And when the two companies saw one another, the companions of Moses said, "Indeed, we are to be overtaken!"
[Moses] said, "No! Indeed, with me is my Lord; He will guide me."

Do not doubt Allaah's ability, and do not rely on those who cannot give you what they do not possess.

And if you are Imaan is not strong enough for you, then you do what you will, but surely you will pay for any sins that you commit, either in this life with distress, loss of wealth, discomfort, or punishment in the hereafter.

And Allaah knows best.

:salam2:

i have medical and auto insurance.

first i'll discuss auto insurance. in all the 50 states in america it is law that you have auto insurance. if you do not, your car can be taken away and very often you will face a minimum of 21 days in jail. no one can drive any vehicle without insurance. i personally believe that it is a ploy to keep certain individuals off the road.

medical insurance is neccessary if you aren't rich. a hospital charges $75 for one tylenol tablet, sometimes $3000 for an overnight stay in a hospital. it's something that we muslims might like to get involved in but in many ways is unavoidable.

Thank you, brother. That's what I'm saying, its impossible to live without it. I'd very well like to see someone who's completely broke, and still lives peacefully in the West without medical insurance. They say finding a cure for an illness is Sunnah, that you should first try to cure yourself while relying on Allah at the same time. It's not like, if someone knows they urgently need to see a doctor, they still won't because they can't get involved in medical insurance.
