Yesterday in the early afternoon, the Israeli army entered Aida Camp and started to shoot tear gas to a small group of young boys who were throwing stones, leading to clashes between the soldiers and the youth that went on for hours. The soldiers shot hundreds of tear gas canisters, rubber bullets and sound bombs while the residents of the camp responded with stones.

Medical sources in Bethlehem reported that several Palestinians were injured during clashes between the Israeli Occupation Forces and Palestinian youth in Aida camp. A 17-year-old boy was shot with a rubber bullet in the back of his head and he is in the hospital at the moment in stable condition. Another boy was shot in the back also with a rubber bullet. Several suffered from tear gas suffocation.

Around 7:30 p.m. the Israeli army brought a ‘skunk’ water truck to the camp, and sprayed the toxic water into the streets and houses of the camp. They also sprayed the entrance gate, the Youth Center and the UN building in the camp. Several families had to be relocated during the night as the smell inside their homes was unbearable. The residents of the camp had to bring trucks filled with water to clean the streets, and the cleaning went on until well past midnight.

At around 2 a.m. the Israeli Occupation Forces re-entered Aida in order to arrest one of its residents. They broke into his home and violently searched for him, causing considerable material damage. When they did not find him in his home they expanded their search to nearby buildings.

The youth of the camp started gathering around the house and throwing stones to the soldiers. The clashes slowly intensified and lasted until 9 a.m. Hundreds of soldiers and several jeeps were brought to Aida, and the army was present in most of the streets of the camp.

Local sources in the camp said the soldiers invaded several homes and occupied their rooftops, using them as monitoring towers.

At 9 in the morning the army withdrew from the camp. No serious injuries or arrests have been reported.

Clashes between the Israeli Occupation Forces and the residents of Aida have been happening daily for the last two weeks, as the locals have taken to the streets to protests against the Israeli crimes in Gaza and against Palestinians in general.
