I have been looking at worthy causes for my zakat recently and stumbled upon an sight which showed my carbon footprint. It was a reputable website and charity which offered a carbon offsetting scheme where you calculate the financial cost to offset the damage we each inflict upon this planet Allah has given us as home. I fully intend to offset this anyway as not only a Muslim but a human being but wish to encourage my brothers and sisters to join me. Obviously I want to make this as appealing as possible so I wondered, would this count as zakat?
