Cloud computing

Could one of you IT'ers explain to me in simple layman words what is cloud computing.

It means that all your work is done online without installing any software on the pc.If you are not connected to the network then you won't be able to do those tasks.For eg.Microsoft office web apps,Google docs can be called cloud computing.

In simple words when your everyday tasks you perform on a pc,are done online in a browser then it's called cloud computing.

Your work is more safer, like if you did it on your computer and then it crashed, you might lose your work. But with cloud computing there's always backups/regular saves.

So I should view the videos that Microsoft and Google are sending me. It is more of a technical issue and I am just getting more reliable service. For example...I really don't care what mechanisms are used on a phone as long as I can use it. Thanks.
