Cloven hoof

One of my threads was locked, but I wanted to follow up on it.

I wanted to ask if someone could point out an ayat where it mentions eating/not eating animals with cloven hoofs. I do remember reading it somewhere in the Quran, but I was having a discussion with someone, and they said, 'no, that's only for Jews.'

As far as I know there is no ayah in the Quran forbidden animals with cloven hoof vs. noncloven hoof. However it is clearly mentioned in the Torah. (the bible for the Jews) So sometimes there is confusion but the kosher laws do not apply to Muslims.

:wasalam: sister

but why just a Quranic verse? we dont find each and every aspect of Islam in Quran.

we have to go thru hadith as well, wht prophet :saw2: did, wht did he say when he saw his sahaba doing something, wht was the opinion of sahabas and the major imams, etc etc.

even the meat of rabbit, deer and peacock is halal, but it doesnt mean tht it is compulsory to eat it. :)

That makes no sense, if it is halaal then there is nothing wrong with eating it. Be careful not to make haram which Allah swt has declared halaal.

Sorry I was unclear, what I meant was there was no ayah forbidding Muslims from eating animals with cloven hoof.

And Cows have cloven hoofs, but it was animals with cloven hoof that did not chew cud that was forbidden.

what do u mean, we should not eat rabbit, deer etc.....

i did not mean that we should not eat them. i meant that its not compulsory to eat them if we dont like them.

eg. apples are permissible to eat in Islam. but its not fard to eat it. if a person dislikes it, he can avoid it without sinning.

sorry for confusion, hope its clear now. :)

Thank you brother for the clarification. I read a hadith once where it was stated that camel meat is halaal but Prophet Mohammed (peace be upon him) would not eat due to preference, but he clearly stated it was allowed. This question reminds me of that.
