Concerning Salat- Can I recite ANY Surah?

Waseem203

Young Muslim
In description of Salah, I always hear people telling me to recite a small chapter after Fatiha, is this mandatory or is it just a suggestion? Also, out of interest, i'd like to ask if there are any non-arabs that do the prayer in English or a different language?
Thanks all.

it's not difficult to recite some short suras. I teach myself arabic and recite short suras by mp3s being downloaded from internet. And the effect is very good. If u try hard, undoubtly u can recite them fluently.

Assalam Alaikum.
We don't read the surah in our own language during prayer.
For example we don't read the English translation of the Qur'an in our prayers. We read it in Arabic, as it was revealed to our Prophet Muhammad (saw).

Here is a useful link explaining in detail how our Prophet Muhammad (saw) did the prayer.

The answer to your question about the language of salat is that salat can be made only in Arabic, because the most important aspect of salat is the recitation of the Qur'an. Translation of the Qur'an - regardless of how perfect it is - cannot be the Qur'an itself and therefore cannot be called the words of Allah (swt). Any other recitations in the salat besides recitation of the Qur'an were prescribed by the Messenger of Allah (saw). The same exact words are recited that the Messenger of Allah (saw) used to teach them. Any other language besides Arabic cannot express their correct meaning, and even if it does to some extent, that cannot replace the words of the Messenger of Allah (saw). Therefore, all fuqaha from the earliest periods till today are unanimous in their opinion that salat should be made in Arabic. One cannot read translation in place of the Qur'anic words, nor can the original words taught by the Messenger of Allah (saw) be replaced with other words.

eventhought Allah/Angels know about all the world languages, we still have to pray in Arabic & Al-Fatehah is compulsory in every raka'ah. to recite other Ayat after Surah Al-Fatehah is sunat, u can recite small or long Surah if u wish in the 1st/2nd raka'ah.

(i believe if we do little we get little).
