Since it is established that we cannot believe what we see on the news.....please inform me on the Darfur crisis.....

My understanding is that the Arab Muslims are brutalizing the African Muslims and burning their villages and horrific things to the people. I wish I could help. I have joined www.Savedarfur.org (Please see their site)..........But I am not clear on the what why and hows of this conflict and where do the muslims here stand on the topic.

asalamualaykum,

The conflict in Sudan is not as clear as the news shows!

Behind the scenes a very dirty game of politics is being played, plaese dont believe the news and this has nothing to do with Arab, African Muslims but guess what?

Oil, natural gases and water!

Yes it may seem odd but they have recently disscovered huge amounts of natural gas and fresh water in the area of Darfur and thats why the West is so interested!

If they are so worried about Human life why dont they help Somalia or even a chrititan country like Congo where over 4 million have died?

cos thay aint got not oil!

(my evidence is from my best friend who is Sudanese and has a lot of knowledge of what is going on, he is in Suadan as we speak studying medicine)

My husband said something similar about it being over oil....but you can't ignore murders, atleast I can't.....

I actually hosted a Women for Women international dinner for the women of the Congo........terrible attrocities.....

If it is true that Arabs are killing African muslims, then they have to be fought until they back off. It does not give you any privilige being an Arab.

However, I'm too a bit suspicious of the way things reported. It all sounds like someone is hell bent on demonising the "Arab" side of the conflict ... never seen a meeting with this side to present their POV (there are two sides to any story you know).

What makes me even more suspicious is this mantra of "black Africans" being the victim. I know full well that Arab Sudanese are as black as anything so I can't quite figure out the difference. The BBC had this famous picture of a member of Janjaweed on a hourse attached to all Darfur stories. The irony is that this man looks PRETTY BLACK. In this day and age, being an Arab is only about the language. Arabs do not have any particular colour which rather casts doubts over this whole issue of "Arabs killing Blakcs .. etc".

I too want to help with Darfur except I can't blindly accept the "humanitarian" agenda of the US/UN in trying to "help". Past history shows there is usually more to it and things often turn much worse (Iraq). Oil discoveries are one possible explanation. We can still make dua'a.

Please go to www.savedarfur.org.........it is not a UN or US website....it is more along the lines of a ONE campaign, which I am also a member of. The stories are heart wrenching.....listen to them, especially Fatima's story.....

Not sure but I think China is scrutinized because they do not put embargos on the Sudanese government for their support of the janjawheed......if that makes sense....it's like they are indirectly supporting the killings of innocents or atleast turning a blind eye. It is a war of genocide.....like Rwanda in 94.

Assalamualaykum,

Recently i've been infatuated with what's going on in Darfur. I feel that this is something that should concern the Ummah, as the majority of the people there are Muslim. I hear people in this thread talking about politics, oil and all of that. But to find out what's really going on, in a coherent fashion, visit this site:

http://www.standnow.org/educate/situation

As Muslims, we should try to help out our brothers and sisters. This is the #1 world crisis right now, and it involves OUR OWN UMMAH. Let's do something about this!! Donate money, sponsor an orphan, do what you can, and InshaAllah, you will see it on the Day of Judgement.

Thanks for posting this. I havent' seen this thread around or else I would've probably responded to it.

It really is sad about whats going on in Darfur. I can only imagine the despair. It really is taking a giant toll on our Ummah. I plan on doing something about it. Inshallah my plan for starting a charity organization for people who are suffering will come through.

:wasalam:

Honestly, we should do this together. My sister was watching Oprah and there was this 16 year old girl who started her own charity for Africa! If she can do that, we can do this, especially when it's our Ummah that is being affected!! But I'm serious, we should work together for this charity thing. Please try to email me InshaAllah.
