When one states that they are about to get on their deen, what exactly does that mean? What does it mean to be on your deen? I know deen means religion but lets break it down. I'm curious to know because I know multiple times I have stated that I'm bout to get on my deen. Does deen mean just doing your salats? Does it mean remembering your holy book? Does it mean giving dawah? What exactly is getting on your deen or living pious? how does one actually live a pious life?

Salaam,

Please understand that I am anything but an authority. I am a simple human being. Given that here is what I believe:

It is written that there are 70,000 veils between us and Allah. We become so engrossed in our daily lives and its importance we forget. It is also written that we are forgetful creatures.
As individual human beings we are given the light of Islam. We have been the Mercy of the Holy Prophet (swas). We have been given the sunnah. The choice is ours.
The starting point is when we are born and the end is with Allah. The path is every moment and every second. We do not just be Muslims one second and unbelivers the next.
I hope you are still awake...
When we enter into a conscious relationship with Allah it is both our actions and more importantly it is our intention. Allah draws us closer. We have the outward life and the private inward life with Allah. Keep in mind this takes time to develop for most people. The veils begin to disappear slowly. The love of Allah fills your heart.
It is not only prayer, it is not only following the sunnah, it is the total intention of your heart at all times.
You can not compartmenatalize Islam. You can not isolate your faith from you. It is closer to you than your blood.

Do not be harsh on yourself. As you become stronger so will your faith. Allah subana talla, guides us to Him. When there is doubt, pray. Spend time with Muslims. Keep reciting a kalma in your heart. It is a process. A bud takes time to flower...and in the changing of the seasons there is wisdom for us...there are times when we are so light and happy with our individual condition ( spring) and there are times when the we feel very lost..(winter)..

I pray this is able to give you comfort...I know the more knowledgeable brohters and sisters will give you strong answers.

The word "Deen" is one of the hardest to translate and that's why many people simply use the word itself, which is Arabic, instead of trying hopelessly to use an English word.

The reason it is so difficult to translate is that it has many aspects. In one aspect, it simply means religion as in "Verily, religion by God is Islam" (3:19) and "Whoever seeks a religion other than Islam, it will not be accepted from him and in the lasting life he will be one of the losers." (3:85) In another aspect, it means the settlement as in "Controller of the the Day of settlement." (1:4) In a third aspect in expresses the condition of a person (10:22) or tradition (12:76) and according to Arabic dictionaries it also shares root with a word that means debt!

It is often thought of as the way of life. Thus, when someone says they'll get on with their deen, they probably mean they want to take the religion seriously and start following it like the Sahaba followed it; with faith and action.

I see and clearly understand the definition but I was hoping to receive more of a respone of how we can take deen into a verb form and actually be pious with it so my real question is how does one submit fully to the will of allah.

well, what constitutes submission to Allah SWT is actually contained in the quran and sunnah. the more time you spend reading the two, with understanding;the more conviction your heart builds up and begins to make you more concious of Allah SWT. you may have prayed 5 times a day, but began the prayers late. now you're on time and pray the extra prayers. you may give sadaqa, but haven't given in zakat. now you begin giving both sadaqa and zakat. you've desired to go on hajj one day, today, you are saving your money wisely so that you can go to hajj, this year.

serving Allah SWT always brings more progression in your faith. there are muslims that were satisfied with keeping a goatee. today after studying, they feel that they should wear the full beard. i think it's things like that. it's living your life, not for your pleasure, but for the pleasure of Allah SWT. how easy it is to commit zinaa, eat haram food, lie, steal, in this world? for many all of these things are pleasurable, but we as muslims are sacrificing these things to please Allah SWT and not ourselves, and we have the comfort in knowing that our sacrifice will bring us rewards far greater than anything in this world.
