Assalaam walaikum,
I just read about ufri (?). It is very interesting because when it is used in the correct manner it is the answer for polygamy in a non-Muslim country. The stipulations are that the witnesses be there.
..........
Thanks, now I get it...Assalaam walaikum,
The form of marriage that is being discussed in the video and what I just read about is called urfi (?).
There are two types.
What they have in common is that there is no written contract.
In one case the Islamic stipulations for marriage are adhered. If a woman has never been married before she needs the witnesses. There is the mahyr. It is legally bound. The is no written record. Thus it works for Muslims who wish to practice Islamic rights and do not live in Muslim majority countries. It is a way to fulfill Islamic obligations without falling into the trap of bigamy.
The second case is what the video is warning us about. As there is no written record many men walk away from the obligations. Thus if they impregnate the wife they walk away. The result is unwanted babies.
This is not temporary marriage. I can understand the reasoning behind it for the first case. However, the second case..what can you say but people, people, people....
I hope I made myself clear.

When it is abused the consequences are severe. The example used in this video was over the top. I just read the statistics for the number of children born without fathers claiming them. Many men do not take responsibility as there often is no official record of the marriage. That is just wrong.
Thank you for posting this.
