Dua of traveller

Salams,
I am travelling soon.
I have heard that the dua of a traveller is always accepted. Thoughts?
In the past, I made very strong dua while travelling, believing that they would be answered. They were not answered and instead the opposite happened, and is still happening.

I leave today. I don't know what to do. Do I keep my expectations high, or. accept that Allah SWT has already decided things for me? I don't know what to do, when I am high in the sky tonight. Do I pray for everything my heart desires? Or forget about myself and just pray for my parents and the hereafter?
