Allah says: When my servants ask you about Me, indeed I am close (to them): I respond to the prayer of every supplication when he calls onto Me… baqarah:186

Allah also says: …(He) Who listens to the distressed when they call unto Him, and who relieves their suffering, and makes you inheritors of the earth? Is their another god besides Allah? Little indeed is what you heed! An Naml:62

Also ‘Call on your Lord with humility and privacy.’ Al-Ar’af: 55

The prophet (saas) said ‘Dua is a weapon of a believer, a pillar of religion, and a light of the heavens and the Earth’ (hakim)

The Prophet (saas) also said: ‘whoever desires to have his du’a accepted by Allah in adversity, should make frequent dua in proseperity’ (tirmidhi)

When we make dua, one of three things happen:
1. it is accepted
2. It is delayed till the Hereafter
3. Allah removes a calamity befalling the person, which is equal in magnitude to the dua

The Prophet (saas) also said: ‘cautiousness can never affect fate, but supplication can do so providing that you continue supplicating to Allah’ (Ahmad)

Manners of dua:

1. begin by Praising Allah and praying for the Prophet (saas)
2. asking with full conviction that the dua will be accepted
3. asking with sincerity, firm will, and seriousness
4. repeating the supplication three times
5. asking with humility
6. ending the dua with ‘ameen’

Optimum times for dua

1. laylatul Qadr
2. on the day of Arafah
3. on a Friday (especially the last hour)
4. the last 1/3 of the night
5. between adhan and iqama
6. on drinking zamzam water
7. whilst fasting
8. during sajdah (prostration)
