Salam wa rahmatullah wa barakatuhu/ Peace and blessing of God be upon you,
dear sister dua is the dialogue between creature and Creator, it's the way we humans have to connect to our Maker and trough it we ask what we need and we say to Allah what we think..if we're hungry, if we're poor, if we want forgiveness, if we want to say to God that we love Him for all these things and much much more we do dua; dua means supplication and that's exactly what dua is, we humbly supplicate to Allah and talk to Him to feel at peace and to ask from Him whetever we need and inch'Allah He'll grant it for He said ''Call upon Me and I'll answer you'' this is what God says and in another narration our beloved Prophet(peace be upon him) said that in this life of harships and war against our egoes and problems ''The Dua is the weaponry of the believer''..in short..we're really weak but our real potential as humans is expressed when we make dua by aknowledging that there is a One True God that hears our supplications and needs, and answers our prayer inch'Allah
