An Egyptian court on Thursday sentenced members of an Israeli spy ring to 25 years in prison. The spy ring was composed of an Egyptian and two Israeli nationals accused of spying for Mossad.

In December, authorities said they had arrested in August Tareq Abdel Razeq, a 37-year old business man, for attempting to recruit Egyptians working in telecommunications to spy for Israel.

The spy ring also includes two Israeli Mossad officers who are being tried in absentia.

Judicial sources said the Supreme State Security Court’s criminal department sentenced all of the suspects to life imprisonment.

Egyptian media outlets reported that Abdel Razeq is accused of trying to recruit citizens from Lebanon and Syria to spy for Mossad.

The State Security prosecution accused Abdel Razeq of receiving US$37,000 from Mossad to spy for Israel.

According to the prosecution, the three suspects worked with Israeli agents from May 2008 to August 2010.

The prosecution also accused Abdel Razeq of providing Mossad with reports and information about officials who work in telecommunications and selecting those who could work with Israel to sabotage Egyptian interests.
