Once there was a minister. He was the king's advisor. He always said that everything happened for a good reason. One day, the king went hunting, his favorite thing to do. He lost his little finger in a trap. Angry and hurt, he went to the minister.
"Why has this happened- what should I do?" asked the king.
As usual, the minister said"Everything happens for a good reason."
Annoyed and outraged, the king shouted"How dare you make fun of me! You always say that, yet it has no meaning! You must be punished for such stupid lies!" The king ordered him to prison. The minister calmly went, beleiving it had a good reason.
Another day, the king went hunting with his party, like he always did. Spotting a fat little animal, he left his party and began to follow it. He was so concentrated on trying to capture the animal, he accidently wandered into Pagan land. He was caught by them.
They put him in a cage, and went to prepare. The king became very scared. He knew that the Pagans, if they every caught a person on their land, would burn them as a sacrifice to their God. Smelling smoke, he became intensely scared, knowing that they were making a huge fire.
When the Pagans carried the king to the fire, one of them noticed that he didn't have little finger on one hand. The person they had caught was not of a full body. And they could only sacrifice full body's to their God. He alerted his people, and the King was set free.
Hurrying back to his palace, he commanded that the minister be set free of prison. After explaining what had happened, the king said
"You were right. Had I not lost my finger, I would have lost my life"
Smiling, the minister said " And I'm glad you put me in prison. If I were not, I would be a part of your hunting party and when you wandered off, I wouldn't have let you go alone, and I would follow you. The Pagans would have caught me, and since I had my full body, I would be dead now"
This story explains that when you are going through hard times, smile, and remember that everything happens for a good reason.
