Assalamu alaikum warahmatullah wabarakatuh brothers and sisters. I hope this reaches you in the best of health/imaan.

I was reading a book called "A warning from wastefulness and Extravagance"By Ibn Baaz and Shakul Islam.

I cam across this beautiful verse that was analysed and explained very well about avoiding wastefulness and always being moderate.

"O children of Adam! we have bestowed clothes upon you to cover your private parts and as reesh and the clothing of taqwa that is better. Such are among the ayaat (proofs) of Allaah that they may remember" (al-araaf-7:26).

Explanation:: Ar-reesh is that which a person adorns him/herself with. Allaah has created for us things that we may use to cover our 'auraat with and he also created for us handsome and beautiful garments that cover us so that the slaves may adorn themselves amongst each other.

Clothing of taqwa:: The clothing of taqwaa is the eeman in Allaah and taqwaa of Allaah by obeying Him, following that which pleases Him and avoiding the things that He has made unlawful; this is the greatest clothing and this is the clothing of taqwaa

He then said: "eat and drink but waste not by extravagance"

He ordered us to eat and drink because this is a means of preserving one's health. One should focus on eating and drinking enough to maintain a healthy life style and keep a good condition. One should NOT be extravagant in eating and drinking which consequently leads to indigestion, sickness and all types of health problems nor should one be negligent. But rather YOU SHOULD STAY IN THE MIDDLE BETWEEN this AND that.

AND for this reason did he state "......but waste not by extravagance"

Al-israaf is doing extra and going overboard and it relates to eating which leads to indigestion....it relates to clothing/dress which leads to wasting of money and not taking care of it. As it relates to speaking, it leads to saying the speech that has blameworthy final outcome or the speech that Allaah made unlawful.

Lesson from this:: be moderate in whatever that you do
extravagance is prohibited in Islam...do whatever you can to avoid it.
