Fast or Obey Parents?

Asalaamul Alaaikum,

So if your parents tell you NOT to fast optionally, like mondays and thursdays, what should you do? Obey them? Or fast?

Here's what my sister was thinking:

1. obey your parents, because obeying them is fard while fasting is optional, sunnah.

2. Fast because fasting is kind of obeying Allah and the Prophet SAW, and that comes before obeying parents.

I agree with the second. Not the first, but i could be wrong.

I'm confused, can you help me out? Perhaps provide a fatwa?

Asalamu Alykum,

I may not be able to provide a fatwa. Although i was also faced with problem, sort of. My mum said not too, because it will affect in terms of my college work and stuff, although it hasnt, because i always try and put in 110%. If they said no, i would explain to them why i must fast and if they still said no, then i would be stuck too. But without a fatwa being provided i would fast anyway, personally. In not saying in anyway that you should do that.

Inshallah someone will be able to help.

Alhamdulilah

Wasalam

Since it`s an optional (Sunnah) fast, you should obey your parents.

Try convincing them in a gentle and kind way, if you are very keen in fasting.

to fasting only during ramadan month is fard.
and obey parents is fard for whole life until their death.

if we leave the fard of obeying parents and busy with nafal fasting i dont think and also sure that allah will be not happy with us.

and as brother happy 2be islam said that:Try convincing them in a gentle and kind way, if you are very keen in fasting, try to convience them that its will not harmfull for your concentration or for health.

allah knows the best.
