I am Sarguroh Fatima Bilal, an Indian national living in Jeddah. Sarguroh is my surname. In my pssport, my surname comes first and when I discovered this, I go around everywhere with this name. Fatima is my name and Bilal is my father. My age is 11 years. Everyone thinks that I should not use the Internet because I am young. But I am an avid lover of it. My hobbies are reading, spending time thinking about memories about the past, surfing the Internet, chatting with friends and cousins and alot more.

I wanted to ask a question...

In my annual school magazine, I came across a poem written for a friend. It was very beautiful, :ma:. But when I came acroos the phrase
"...Bless this heart, O Lord (Allah) I pray
May it be safer by night and day.
Bless this soul shining bright
I want you to promise me..."

Here the person is asking Allah to promise him/her. So, is it permissible to ask a promise from Allah? Please clear my doubt and Inshallah I will publish this poem.

I want to start off by welcoming you to TTI.
And concerning your question from my knowlegde i know that its not forbidden to ask Allah to promise them. I know that Allah promised us Al-Jennah if we worship him correctly. We ask Allah to fulfill his promise since he is the almighty so i believe there isnt anything haram in asking Allah to promise.
Im not saying im right you should also get a second opinion on this just for the safe side.

I don't know if it's wrong to ask for a promise... it does sound wrong however.

We ask Allah to fulfill his promise since he is the almighty

No no... i know this is wrong though.

You should never ask Allah (swt) to fullfil His promise!!! He (swt) is not a Human!! Breaking promises is a human characteristic... It's not possible for Allah (swt) to break His promises. Astagfirullah.

If He (swt) promised Jannah, we believe without doubt.

Regarding your question whether it is permissible to ask promise from Allah, then the answer is NO because Allah does what He wills and none has the authority over Allah, instead Allah has the authority over all things.

Also, when we make an oath or promise, we should do so only in the name of Allah and nothing else.
