Female Qaris (reciters)

:salam:

I just saw a youtube video of an ISNA Convention in Washington D.C. that had a sister recite the Quran.

I'm confused. I always thought that it is not permitted for a female to recite Quran where a non-mahram could hear her voice. Could someone please clarify this for me? salam

It looks more like an intellectual panel to me, of course learned too in the Deen. The likes of Tariq Ramadan, Jamal Badawi, Sr Ingrid Mattson and Imam Zaid Shakir usually are ones to advance Christian-Muslim dialogue, so a female voice being heard at the commencement of the program seems a fitting approach (not to say it legitimises it) ... It's about audience I guess.

Walaikum Asalam Warahamtullahi Wabarakatuh ukhty, I was though that girls voice is Awrah in front of a Non-Mahram as well. However, today you will find many who is over the ages of puberty reading Qur'an, Du'a, Nasheed and act.. in a huge audience.
