'United Kingdom.
Government urged to help and protect vulnerable British Hajj and Umrah pilgrims.
The Association of British Hujjaj (pilgrims) UK (ABH) a National charity, working for the welfare and well being of British Hajj and Umrah Pilgrims, welcome the announcement made by Rt Hon Mr Howell Minister of the Foreign and Commonwealth Office that the government is considering to send a delegation to help British Pilgrims at Makkah during the Hajj pilgrimage.
The ABH strongly urge the government that it is vital to provide the much needed health care and welfare services like other countries around the world that are providing to their nationals during the Hajj pilgrimage.
British Pilgrims have always been at high risk of infectious diseases and accidents due to crowded conditions at ceremonies, accommodation sites and on public transport.
The tragic accidents that have taken place during the hajj pilgrimage in the past have resulted in the loss of a substantial number of pilgrims lives including British pilgrims; this has caused a great amount of grief and distress.
A large number of British Hajj pilgrims also experience significant hardship, difficulties and mental anguish due to lack of appropriate arrangements for their accommodation and travelling.
They do not receive the required help and assistance from the tour operators during their stay in Saudi Arabia. Pilgrims are simply abandoned by some tour operators who do not fulfill their contractual commitments.
ABH also strongly urges the British Hajj Delegation to look into this humanitarian issue and ensure that vulnerable British citizens are not being deprived of their basic human rights.
“The British Hajj Delegation has a national and international significance which has also been helping to enhance the image of UK’s multi-faith and multi-cultural society” said Mr Javed Aziz (Chairman ABH).
