Going to NON muslim memorials?

Asalam alikoum brothers and sisters
My mothers boss who is a very close friend of hers for 30 years passed this morning (From GOD we come and to HIM we shall return) anyway it would mean so much for my mother if I am able to attend with her, am I allowed to go to his "memorial service" it is not being held in a church and I am not even sure who will be giving the service as they were not religious people at all. Anyway, inshallah I want to attend in order to make my mother happy thus opening her eyes more to the beuty of islam but dont want to attend if it is haram for me to do so.

Personally (and I am certainly not a scholar), I would say go there and make sure you represent yourself as a muslim. This could also be a good Dawah!

Mualaikumsalam warohmatulahi wibarakatuh, You're not going there to worship anything so it shouldn't be a problem.

Note that a muslim cannot ask for the Mercy of Allah for a non muslim.. and going there is only for social purposes only.

Is it permissible to attend a non-Muslim funeral?
