As I was folding laundry and debating w/in myself I started thinking about something that Sister Apa had brought up about how Muslims are not very involved in the grass roots level of our communities. She is so very right. As a Political Science geek I follow politics pretty closely. I am getting involved in my son's Early Head Start as the Chairwoman of the Parent Committee and Policy Council. Insh Allah I will be able to do some good there. Why is it that we fellow Muslims are not that involved in our communities outside of ourselves? How can we get more involved?

It does not have to be political. Just of the top of my head..we can:
donate food to the local food pantry
we can serve meals at a food kitchen
we can volunteer at hospitals, prisons, retirement homes, animal shelters
we can become Meals on Wheels drivers
we can help clean a city block
we can volunteer at teen centers
We can silently be seen as workers for the good of all people.
