Assalamu alaikum everyone.
I had a question to ask you all about halal meat. I have heard from other muslims and read fatwas that if you don't know how the meat was slaughtered from other muslims or People of the book, then it is okay to just say bismillah and then eat it and they cite this hadith as evidence:
The Sahaabah (may Allaah be pleased with them) asked the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) about this, saying, “O Messenger of Allaah, some people who are new in Islam brought us some meat, and we do not know whether they mentioned the name of Allaah over it or not.” The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “Say the name of Allaah over it and eat it.” (Reported by al-Bukhaari).
But I have also heard that this is not allowed and only zabiha meat is or kosher meat and there is also evidence for that. I was wondering if anyone here had some insight on this. JazakumAllahu khair!
