Please I have a question,
Somebody asked me one day.
Why the woman allowed only show her face and her hands.Of course I replied with the verse from the Quran and the hadith.
then person asked:
"Why she has to be coverd exactly till her hands and not till the elbow, for example. Why she has to be covered till her feet and not until the knees."
How do u explain this?"

I couldn't answer this question, then after all that person gave me half of the answer, but how do u explain this?

Before answering such queries to non-muslims, ask them to learn from the basic of Islam and not just simply start asking nonsense questions.
Tell them about Tawheed and Eeman. The dress code in Islam is part of Faith. Prophet Muhammed (pbuh) unlike Jesus(pbuh) came with The LAW and THE HOLY QURAN, whereas Jesus was not given the law but only the book Injeel, which did not include the law and order.
Insha Allah, May Allah put barakah in your efforts and give of what is best for you.

what kind of answer she gave?
and about that verse there are a lot of interpretation about this verse.
you have to ask this question from both type of woman who wear niqab and those who wear hijab.

and if you were asked by a non-muslim then its a long way as brother hussain said you have to tell her first about islam and tawheed.
otherwise to show logic will be not enough for a europian or american girl.

The question does not make any sense; Allah does not want to put a burden on the Muslim men and women. Islam is about modesty, humbleness, and shyness. It's almost like asking, why did Allah give you two eyes and not one, why did He give us 1 heart and not 2, why are both of our hands equal in length--you see the point--it's irrelevant (of course it is a blessing, but that's another topic). Maybe you should teach them about the roles and responsibilities of men and women and inshallah that will help them understand Islam clearer.

Salaam,

As a woman it is my choice and duty to serve Allah. In life I am constantly struggling about serving Allah or serving this life. This is a fact for all humans.
As a human being who has made the rational choice, not by force, but by my love for my Creator, I choose to remain as far away from the seductions of the world.
It is written that we guard our worship. Worship is not limited to a specific time to pray. Worship is 24/7 360. If I dress in state that is a tangible reminder that I want to be in a state of grace..I dress according. I am in the presence of Allah at all times.
In philosphical terms I need to annilihate my ego. I want this body to disappear so my rou can free itself from my naf. This is an exercise of sprituality. I de-objectify myself. I take myself away from the physical world.
I pray this makes sense. It is a choice to please Allah.

i agree with humlbewun, another point or analogy iwant to add is:dressing modestly is like someone proctecting a very precious valuable and priceless gemstone. they put in a locked room and place it in glass within a cage, with laser surrounding it, and securities around the room. you see those kind of things in museums all the time. do you say why do they go that far in preserving and safeguarding that that gemstone? why don't they just wrap it in a rag and put it aside on the table with the pebbles. by no means! the rock is a special rock , so special we don't want to even refer to as just a rock, but rather a gemstone. the same is for dressing modestly: when you are trying preserve something special you go to the extreme end to make sure no harm in any way comes to it.a rock is to a gem as a women is to a lady (modest).

Human behavoiur

Asalaamalykum.

Well I think the question is a good one, which many non-muslims ve asked me aswell.
To answer it we need to understand the human behavoiur, particularly a Man's behavoiur as to when he sees any women..More she would be uncovered more he would love to see it and for sum people a small part thts visible is enough for them to get started...
(Eceptions are there)
Allah and Prophet Muhammad(Saw) ve the best knowledge, if they said sumthing there has to be sum logic behind it.

May Allah guide us all.

JazkhuAllah khair sister for your beautiful input. The hijab is a constant reminder of our identity as muslim women. I saw one of my friends walk through the library in her long floathing jilbab and her new niqaab not recognising her, and I was so taken by this sisters grace and inner beauty that I went up to talk to her; turned out to be my friend. MashaAllah the strength it takes to uphold the muslim womans identity is amazing. As you say sister as muslim women we have a choice and duty to serve Allah and when we make that choice, not only do we benefit but so do those around us.
