:salam2: Brothers and Sister
In a few weeks in my Women in Religion class, there will be a debate on a certain topic. I just looked at the topic and noticed that something did not look right. I am hoping she does not choose me for this side.
Here is side A.
Female circumcision is the religious and cultural practices of African Muslims. Some of them are immigrants in this country and, claiming their freedom of religion, they want it to be legal for doctors to practice circumcision on their daughters, just as doctors perform circumcision on male children. This should be a legal practice..
Side B: Female circumcision is an abhorrent and violent mutilation of a young person who has no say in the matter. American medical institutions should never condone and American doctors should never agree to perform it.
She is a great professor but the first topic irked me because through my 1.5 years of studying Islam I have never come across female circumcision. Forgive me if I am wrong, but should I consult her in private or just let it go.
All I do know is that I am against that form of circumcision. What to do because I would hate to start a year on the bad side of the professor. I am off to class now.
Wassalaam
