:salam2:

I want to give a copy of translation of the Quran to a person interested in Islam.

My questions are:

1)What is the best ( closest in meaning and easy readable) translation of the Quran ?

FYI: I would like to give a nice looking book as a present.

2) Can I give Quran with arabic and english to a non-muslim. I think I heard

that Quran in Arabic can NOT be touched by non-muslims.

Thank you.

I would suggest Abdullah Yusuf Ali's Translation and Commentary.

May Allah reward you for your efforts, and give you success in what you are trying to achieve. Aameen.

I would recommend Sahih International, i have used this translation for a long time. I think it would be easy for someone who is learning about Islam to read it and the english is pretty easy to understand, compared to the other translations by Pickthal and Yusuf Ali. This is just my suggestion.
Also, if you want to give him/her a book i would recommend a book on the Biography of Prophet Muhammad(peace be upon him). Books like When the Moon Split or The Sealed Nectar. The former is much easier to read with less details and it is excellent book for a beginner. Thats about all i can think of for now, i hope this is helpful to you and may Allah reward you for your effort in helping someone learn about Islam.
As Salamu Alayikum wa Rahmatullah.

I suggest M. A. S. Abdel Haleem, The Qur'an: A New Translation. Oxford, 2004, which reads very well.
A lot of work on Qurʾānic lexicography has taken place since the English translations of Pickthall and Yusuf Ali, and the translator, Abdel Haleem, has done impressive work in Qurʾānic lexicography. He is the co-authour of a monumental Arabic-English dictionary of Qur'anic usage based on works of major Arabic lexicographers who are brought together in a single volume:
El-Said M. Badawi [and] Muhammad Abdel Haleem. Arabic-English dictionary of Qurʾanic usage. Leiden: Brill, 2008. (Handbuch der Orientalistik. Bd. 85).

You can read a review of Abdel Haleem's translation The Qur'an: A New Translation here:

I would suggest the translation by Dr. Muhsin (it's based on the translation of Yusuf Ali). IMO, that is the best translation out there, as I have gone through a few (pickthal, Oxford, etc).

The translation is done by scholars from Saudi Arabia, (I believe based from Madinah al munwarah)

How can this be when the Qur'an is a message for all of mankind? What about all the stories of people (Like the English brother featured in one of TTI's videos) who read the Qur'an in order to argue it or find fault and it ended up touching their souls and they converted?

Anyone can have a Qur'an. Doesn't Allah Himself challenge the unbeliever to find fault in the Book if he can? Need I remind you that the Islamic World decreed it illegal to translate the Qur'an for hundreds of years? So how would the unbeliever even be able to take up Allah's challenge if they aren't even allowed to touch it? Your proposed restriction doesn't make any sense.

Salaam,

I know what you mean. Perhaps tapes, CDs, and reading or listening to the Quran online can be alternatives without physically touching the Quran. Many scholars also agree that you need to have wudu prior to touching/reading the Quran, but non-Muslims don't know this as well.

The Holy Quran should be handled with the deepest respect. However, God is All-Merciful and we cannot be held responsible for what we do in ignorance or by mistake. The Quran itself says: "Our Lord! Punish us not if we forget or fall into error" (2:286). Therefore, there is no sin in Islam on the person who mishandles the Quran by accident or without the realization of wrongdoing.

Once you know better then you act accordingly. This is only common sense. The unbeliever should have a Qur'an. Should he convert then he will understand the nature of any wrong doing he did during his time of ignorance.

Just like Umar and Khalid bin Walid had to do.

nowhere in the quran its mentioned that it should not be touched by a nonmuslim infact prophet muhammed sent verses of quran to kings of other nations and tribes so that they read it and accept islam .this was said by dr.zakir naik in one of his lectures

Allah will decide
Question about Touching the Quran???

Now just how in the world can you do dawah, if someone is seeking knowledge, who is not yet a Muslim?? IF they can't read or touch the Quran?

I was not a Muslim, but became a Muslim by first reading the Quran, then reading other books to gain more knowledge.....??
