First let me tell you that when I was in Singapore I had the pleasure of buying any product that had the halal symbol on it and Masha'Allah Singapore has many halal certified products but now Al Hamdulilah Im back in the US and I find my self very restrictive when it comes to food especially chocolates.I feel so isolated cause I think there are no food out there I can eat. Since Im a chocolate eater it looks like there are no chocolates out there I can eat.I cant keep looking at the back of things looking at the ingredients and researching it. I've looked up halal websites but they are of no help they are too vague on their information. There are a lot of kosher symbols but they certify that alcohol is kosher too. Is small traces of alcohol in chocolates haram ?

please help me guys I feel like I'm being to hard on myself! How do you define halal and haram ?
Thanks and May Allah SWT Bless you all!

Walaikum Ssalaam.
Brother, its defined and refined. No new definitions.

From what we know, its easier to find Halaal food in most of US. Maybe you are the stereotype (guy) who walks straight, picks first thing from rack and heads home... Its just your old habit, unload the Singapore skills and load US skills. On the positive side, your present and future family will be impressed, by skills you equipped for survival.
